From these experiences I gleaned that i indeed did not wish to be color blind but that instead i would see color for what it was. What I found in black neighborhoods or places of work was something distinctly un-white, or something that I had as of yet not encountered in white neighborhoods. And that was a warmth and inclusiveness ... even a love and welcome in embracing me that I have never encountered in any white neighborhood. I found a richness of character and depth of love for mankind unlike I had experienced anywhere. And frankly I found it distinctly black.
Over the years I have come to understand that we as Americans need to embrace each other and that one without the other will never be whole. Whites with out embracing black culture will never be whole and vice-versa. I truly believe it and that is why I am not color blind.
