There's a lot of buzz going around about how Hillary Clinton has been treated so poorly by some simply because she is a woman.
I can't help but think of the speech Sojourner Truth (Isabella Baumfree) is credited with giving:
Ain't I a Woman?.
You may find it timely.

Society's fear of women is deep, I believe rooted in our evolutionary path. If I'd not seen and understood gay self-hate and loathing and black self-hate and loathing, I'm not sure I'd have understood women self-hate and loathing. Women's lib was never about being like men.
Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.
Timothy Leary
I'll point to something accredited to Sojourner Truth:
"If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone..."
The Bible/Torah tradition scapegoats all the ills of the world at the feet of women. In the Greek mythology tradition, we find Pandora with her bottle.
That's some powerful hate.
I am not discounting Obama.
you are really on to something. there is so much misunderstanding about women. the question is: is the fight universal? are all women fighting for the same thing?
i think, "no"....
Sexism and racism have the same parents.
I do think, though, that Hillary Clinton was a different sort of woman in good and bad ways and many of the criticisms of her were entirely personal. Politics, at least highly successful political careers, seem easier for those who have a certain type of charisma. Hillary seemed to lack this, although it is evident Bill C. and Obama both have more than their share. That said, it is amazing how powerful and amazing a level she reached in this campaign and her impact will be felt forever, even though she didn't win. All women should and will be grateful that the gates are now open.
