Getting Set to Go - Humor Monday

I have fifteen more minutes to drink tonight 

They said no food or water after midnight 

So I'm drinking more than I usually do 

And snacking, the scales will give me a fright 

 

I going to have my pacemaker replaced 

The battery is running on low 

I guess this is not elective surgery 

Or I really wouldn't go 

 

I want them to be sure this one lasts 

The one I have has paced for seven years 

I'm going to ask them for one that keeps on ticking 

Like a Timex, then I' m set for good, so Cheers~

Thank you Bhawana and Kathryn, had the surgery about 1 PM , discharged at four, and happy to be home, been sleeping a lot, they gave me something to calm me down, and I became calm at home, lol. thanks for everything

I had a male nurse and he was kind of cute, lol, I didn't even see the doctor, they put a tent over my face, so I couldn't breathe on the wound, lol. but I talked to him and he saw me in my room

Hi Lynn, thanks so much, hated not being able to get a drink, but I sure did drink after the surgery, one of the prerequisites for getting discharged was being able to urinate, fulfilled that one quickly and was on my way.. I have slept a lot today and tonight, I guess what they give you to calm you sticks around for awhile

You might ask them to leave a couple terminals sticking out. Then if the battery gets low we can hook up the ol' jumper cables!

Tell him not to worry, it was very easy and I had no pain, and still have none, but might kick in tomorrow, a bit, they gave me no medications so I guess they think tylenol will do. And yes, I had clean underwear, I remember that too, lol, love, Elsie

The no food or drink after midnight might be the worst of it. Sometimes the prep is more difficult to get through then the procedure. I will be thinking of you.

yep, that is what I hated, but I made up for it right after I came up to my room they had me a nice sandwich and two glasses of juice and gingerale and a bottle of water, I may float away, lol.

So the nicotine and tars corroded your pacemaker battery? Sorry, I had to get that in! You'll be fine, Elsie. This has become a common and very low-risk procedure.

Yep John, must be that, love it, and I am fine, and it was quick, but waited almost five hours for the surgery wanting a drink so bad, but no dice, now just have to remember not to lift anything for a couple of days with that arm.

Elsie, I had mine replaced and the procedure is a breeze. It's nice to know the thing is in there prepped and ready to go when we need it. Enjoy your short induced nap. You'll have more energy for writing once it's over. Best wishes, my dear.

Well, I think seven years was quite a long time for that one to last, they said this one is good for nine, lol. I will be pretty old in nine years. I was a youngster at 76 when I got my first one,

Thanks for sharing your sweet and funny poem about a serious subject. I hope and pray all will go well for you, Elsie. My dad went through four defibrillators (the last with a pacemaker also) and numerous surgeries. He had the best of cardiac care and lived 18 years past his first heart attack. He wouldn't have chosen to have the fourth defibrillator, but my mother made him, lol!

I never had a heart attack, I have an electrical something or other that doesn't send a signal for the heart to beat, so this one gives it a jerk or too, as you know. I go to a wonderful cardiac group.

I hope all will go well for you. I could really relate to your poem, as I have to have total knee replacement surgery and I have to see the surgeon about it on November 2.

I hope that goes well for you Janet, my DIL had that done and it went quick for her and she was around in a few weeks, everything is so advanced these days, this surgery was so much easier than the last one , of course that one was an emergency, lol. Take care.

Here's your update Lynn, was sleeping most of the night, got home about 4:30 or 5 PM, and then fell asleep, their calming drug calmed me down at home and I slept until about an hour ago, and am not going to be up much longer either, love, goodnight Lynn

I'm so glad you're OK. I checked all day to see if you were around. Then after midnight checked again. I'm fried. Got no sleep at all. Will get some now. And of course I worried.

Yes, it is important, without it I wouldn't be here for many years now, I am lucky I was able to get an emergency one, I just came home from having it set higher, I don't know why they set it 20 beats lower than it was before, yesterday I was so tired I could hardly move so called and today they reset it, I should begin to be able to run around again. "They didn't know why it was set so low. but did correct it today.
