Riding With Billy Update - Drabble

Last night, September 15^th, about 10:00 PM, Billy started his

trip to California on his motorcycle. He stopped at about 2:30

AM in Lamar, Pennsylvania as it was cold. He found a room and after breakfast. started

riding again.

At 10:38 PM tonight he called from Indianapolis, Indiana, I think he is

making fine time, and resting at night. He will go on to St. Charles. Missouri

tomorrow, about 250 miles from where he is, where he will spend a couple days

with a friend he has known for years on the computer.

Thought I would give you an update.

He is so excited, and happy, and that makes me feel that way too. He is finding it very cold to ride at night. but making really good time I think. The fellow he is going to see is an Iraq veteran who he met in a chat room five or six years ago, and they have become real friends. I have spoken to him on the phone a few times, he is a nice guy and will treat Billy well, and he will get to meet someone he admires so much. I bet he is glad he went and bought the chaps now. I imagine it would get pretty cold riding a bike at night. It is wonderful that he is going to visit this friend for a few days. I hope his trip is smooth and safe.

Sounds wise. I've done 700 miles in one day but that's on a cruising bike and I take a stretch every 200 miles.

Billy is on a cruising bike too, it is a V Star Custom 690, Yamaha, what ever that is but it won't go all that fast, and He arrived at his friends house early tonight about 7 PM, and will stay there and rest up for a day or so, but he is very happy and I am proud of him. thanks for commenting.

My family made the trip from New Jersey out to Los Angeles California in 1960 and made the return trip in 1961. It's a lot of road to travel.

My best wishes to your grandson to have a fun, safe trip.

He is safe and traveling well. That is good.....

A student at U Mass was killed last Sat night riding his regular bicycle without a helmet. Hit and run.

This trip sounds so exciting and he does seem to be making good time. I guess it is good that it is too cold at night, it forces him to take a break. I hope he has a wonderful time and safe trip.

Elsie, this is very exciting. I'm glad he's happy and this is making you happy. I think it will be fun to follow his trip through you. Is he taking any photos along the way? This ALMOST makes me want to get a motorcycle and take off.

I'm waiting to hear what is next, his friends kids had the stomach flu, and that is Billy's biggest panic fear. He left after one night, and is in a motel near
St. Louis, He said it is supposed to rain for the next three days , but if it is even a little clear tomorrow, he will get out of there and go a bit south, Colorado is supposed to have highs in the 30s, so he might be on a bit
of an extended luxury vacation, He is in Best Western, the kid can pick em. lol
My pocket book is taking a beating but as long as he is safe, I'm okay with that, and I know he will pay me back.

Glad to hear he is off the road in the bad rains. I'd have been running for the hills too, Elsie, had I stopped where the flu was. Can't have that. Wilma mentioned her area might get temps in the 20's either last night or tonight. Wow. The weather really is dipping for some areas. It might throw us into shock if it got that cold this quickly here. We have to gear up for that, and even in January it is a test of our constitutions. Can't imagine driving in 30 degree temps on a motorcycle. Good thing he bought that extra clothing.

Elsie, after reading an article by Jax about the flooding in the Atlanta area, we turned on the Weather Channel and they showed snow in Denver. Looked like lots of it to me. The Weather Channel also showed flooding in an area of Missouri. I know it's raining in some parts of Texas and going northeast from there. Has Billy found a route yet without so much rain? Or snow? And I guess I was just expecting that he would ride in some beautiful weather. Boy was I wrong.

What's the latest?

He was in Sweet Springs, Mo. yesterday staying the night again as there was a thunderstorm really bad lightning, and he got into another motel. His new route is to go
south to Witchita Falls Texas, and then up to Nevada and over to Sacramento. I haven't heard from him yet today but he will call me as soon as he can. I will do an update when he gets rolling again, I hope he gets there soon, these motels are not too cheap. but I will do what I can to keep him safe and get him there, He is just mad at the weather, but otherwise in great spirits and enjoying his vacation. lol. I think you should tell him to sell his motorcycle and instead buy a Schwin or hire a Rickshaw through an advert. Yes, it would make the trip slower, but he would not be causing ice shelves in Antartica from breaking off due to the emissions solely from his motorbike. Serious Catholic guilt here that calls for a trip to Magi's Confessional. However, if he's not Catholic, well, nevermind. However, you could talk of the benefit of exercise, but don't mention dirty laundry.
