The Memory Keeper's Daughter is a book about love, betrayal, pain, regret, forgiveness and so many more emotions that occur with everyday life. It begins in 1964 during a blizzard when a set of twins were born. The girl has down syndrome and is immediately sent away. The mother is told the child died. The story follows the twins as they mature not knowing the other exists until the end of the story. This story shows that the decisions we make affects not only us but the ones we love as well.
I cried and was heartbroken until the end. I was then smiling and my heart was mended. This is a great book and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good tear-jerking novel. If you don't like sad books then this book is not for you.
I give this book a 5 star.
The author has the ability to make the reader feel the emotion of each of the characters. I started out hating the Father but by the end I understood his decision more clearly and felt sympathy for him. She writes with compassion for families dealing with difficult lifestyles and circumstances.
