Currently I'm reading Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann and I have to say that at page 211 I love it! It's a story of several different characters all living in New York City in the year 1974 when a tightrope walker makes his world renowned feat of "running, dancing, leaping between the towers." All of the different stories somehow connect to one another and it's satisfying to read on to find out how they do.
McCann's beautiful and gut-wrenchingly candid prose brings the reader to fully taste the grit of the city during such a tumultuous time in its history. The situations presented and the language used to describe them will continue to turn a reader's head no matter how many times you re-read one of the book's passages (which you might have to do to fully appreciate it's beauty).
Even though I'm only little over mid-way through it, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this earnest, tough book. It'll give you an appreciation for the miraculous city of New York, a sypathetic nod towards all walks of life and an overall appreciation for beautiful, exceptional literature (in case you don't already have one).
If you'd like a free copy, you can download one by Wednedsay, August 5th at 10:59PM ET on Oprah.com. You must be a member to download.
