Author Helen Kim
This is another book about young people in another country. It is set in Korea in the 70's or 80's. Not only does one learn about the culture - the foods, clothes, habits - but there is family tension.
Different cultures deal differently with family issues. That is shown strongly in this book. The extended family has quite a say in the workings of a family unit.
The characters are strongly portrayed and the interactions are interesting.
When an orphaned boy comes to stay with the family, the balance is shifted. It affects all of them in different ways.
I highly recommend this book.
