What are you reading?

I've just started Eragon, and I picked up Steven King's book Cell a few says ago. It should be enough to keep me busy for a couple weeks.

Knights Templar-ish books are def. among my interests, thanks for stirring my memory of this book! If you write about your thoughts on the book later.....I'll be checking them out. :-)

I'm into Eragon too right now. I picked up Cell...might go back for it. Thanks for the comments/ideas, Christina. :-)

My husband just got his reading list for school next week. He's going back to college! Anyway, he's taking a fantasy writing course. His books are:

A Wizard of Earthsea, book 1
The Hobbit
The Andromeda Strain
Canticle for Leibowitz
War of the Worlds
The Prentice Hall Anthology of Science Fiction & Fantasy


As for books away from the Fantasy genre, I'd recommend "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult, or "The Pact", also by Ms. Picoult.

"Survivor" by Tabitha King was a really good read, too.

I'm rereading "Breakfast at Tiffany's" - a wonderful book. And, I have "Living Upstairs" going by my reading chair.

I have some of the list, Heather, and some I haven't ever read. Thanks for sharing it, they all sound great!
I'll check out the books by J. Picoult as well....reading the synopsis right now on Amazon and they do indeed sound interesting.

I am currently reading Interpreter of maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. It is a collection of short stories. It won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction. She has a wonderful voice. Jodi Picoult is very good. She writes about very dark subjects, though. Tuesdays with Morrie is my all time favorite. I could go on and on. I love to read.

Mountains Beyond Mountains is about Paul Farmer's work and it's pretty interesting

I just finished Eragon. It was ok, but definitely not the best fantasy I've ever read. Jhumpa Lahiri is fabulous. I love her. I've read Interpreter of Maladies and The Namesake. Both are great. One of my favorite books in the last few years is Three Junes by Julia Glass. I've read it twice now, and I just can't get enough of it. I also loved Reading Lolita in Tehran, and The Kite Runner, although those are kind of heavy. If you're looking for something more lighthearted, I recently finished An Italian Affair and I really enjoyed it. And one of my new favorite light hearted authors is Peter Mayle. He writes both fiction and nonfiction. Mostly I've read his nonfiction, which are memoirs of his adventures while living in France. He is originally from England. Every once in awhile I like to recommend a book I read in a college lit class: The Painted Bird. It's not a book for just anyone. It is wonderfully written, by a polish man who speaks english as a second language. It really effects his writing, but in a good way. The story, though, is very harsh, very cruel. One of my best friends literally threw the book across her room because it pissed her off so much. But, she loved it and did finish reading it. The worst thing about the book, is knowing that there is a lot of truth to what the author says. I love recommending this book because it is so terrific, but it is really difficult to know whether it is going to offend a person or not. So, if you can't get through The Kite Runner, then don't bother with Painted Bird.

I have a stack of books I have to read and review for a company I write for so honestly, I just choose one from the top of the stack and read. I like a challenge when it comes to reading so I read about anything. I think it keeps my brain sharp and I learn so much more than had I choosen each book myself!

Currently reading "Tender is the Night" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. As soon as I'm done with that I will move on to "Tomorrow Will Be Better" by Betty Smith. I just finished "Joy in the Morning," and before that "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." Happy reading!

I like to collect all the short stories from the multitude of literary e-zines ou there and download them to my e-book. I am also reading political books to try to understand at what point a society goes from being a democracy to being a facist state.

I'm about half way through 'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay' by Michael Chabon. The writing is engaging and intelligent. I am really enjoying this book.
It's a novel about two young men in New York City during WWII.

I just finished "Monkey Man" by Steve Brewer
and I'm getting ready to read "For Whom the Minivan rolls" by Jeff Cohen.
