I know she fought me through my constant struggles
Hell she has waited for me most all of her life
I don't know how blessed I am that we're still married
But I'm too drunk to know that she's still my wife

So she wants me sober, and to live a new motto
But whiskey's the fuel when I'm at the throttle
I'll pull my head out of my glass without much bravado
And start the long crawl out of this half empty bottle

To her I should have been, a better husband
Our children deserved a better dad
And I could've tried to be her best lover ever
I could have been a sober man

YES, you can Terry. You must want to do it. Very good poem and I know of the heartache you are speaking. You can do it though. You must turn it over to God and admit that it is a problem... then you can only go up from there. Good luck.

I'm hoping this is just a poem, and there's no reason to say this. I'll still give you a ten, for a very good poem, but the problem with that is the bottle is still half full. Dump it, and don't buy another. Love you man, but demon Rum isn't even hiding what he does, it's there for all to see, and obviously, you see it too. Ditch him before he ditches you.

Good Job Terrie.
Anyone that has an addiction has to want to stop first. I hope it's not yourself you speak of in the poem and if it is...I hope you have the will to face tomorrow sober. It starts with one tiny step, one hour at time. Good poem by the way, we usually hear from the other side and not from the voice of the addicted.

This work however is not about me. And please don't say anything about denial. It may be about a distant relative or a friend. Or maybe someone in your life.

Ron If you can strum a guitar maybe something can get done here. And uh yeah parts of it may fit into Anne Murrays "Could I have this dance?" But I don't know why it reminds me of that song

Terry I know how cruel a mistress that addiction can be. It killed one of my uncles and my granddad. My dad had problems with it too. It is a well thought out and well written poem bespeaking the trials and troubles that come with an addiction to alcohol but it could be about any addiction.
