(This is dedicated to everyone who is waiting for a loved one to return home from the war.)
The distance seems so far this night,
I wonder where you are;
I wonder if you're missing me,
wishing on a star.
I cannot forget
the look that was in your eyes
the night you held me close
as we whispered our goodbyes;
You said,
I promise I'll come back to you
You'll always be my girl.
Now war is raging,
people are hating;
For what, I just don't see;
And I pray each night
God will make it right
and bring you home to me.
I wonder if you're scared,
feeling lonely and sad;
I wonder if you're in pain;
I wonder if you're mad;
I wonder if you think of me
as bombs explode in the air;
I wonder if you'll come home to me;
I wonder if you still care.
I cannot forget
the look that was in your eyes
the night you held me close
as you said your goodbyes ;
You said,
I promise I'll come back to you
You'll always be my girl.

Louis...this is not about my husband and myself...(thank goodness). But I have friends who are experiencing this, and this poem is for them, as well as all of the wives and husbands who are at home waiting for their loved one to return.
