I am so irritated with the unbelievably loud commercials being shown in-between tv shows. It is especially annoying when my baby is napping and I have the volume down low for the show but WHAM!!! LOUD AS CAN BE SCREAMING COMMERCIALS!!! and Evan begins to cry.

Currently commercials are allowed to be as loud as the loudest part of the tv program they are being shown in. So if the tv program you are watching has a relatively low volume throughout except for when someone screamed in fear, excitement, etc. the commercial can be as loud as that scream.

Thank goodness for the following bill which will curb loud ads!

I usually just hit the mute button so their commercial is ineffective anyway.
But since I dont watch TV but maybe once a month.....

I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not. Thanks you for confirming that they are doing it on purpose. And waking a sleeping baby is the worst! I've been known to go nuts when the UPS guy rings the doorbell and wakes my kids up!

It isn't just television, it's computers too. On the poker site that I play on there are sometimes ads on the breaks and they are a lot louder than the sounds of the game. Loud commercials suck no matter where they are :(

I'm happy to see that this has at least passed the subcommittee. My husband has often mentioned that congress should pass a bill to curb the loudness and maybe they will!

It's about time! I had access to one TV with smart sound which worked. Therefore, when you selected the sound level the commercials weren't all that loud. Can't find one like that now.

There was a company whose ads were so loud that I contacted them about it. It was some sort of vaccuum cleaner. I told them that if I were in the market for one it certainly wouldn't be theirs due to the absolutely loud and annoying commercial. I may not have been the only person who let them know that because the commercial was soon gone. WooHoo!

Remember the power of communicating with the advertiser.

And the advertisers don't want us telling them how bad their commercials are.

Might even be good to contact the network or the show they are sponsoring. The advertisers don't want to lose that advertising space and the networks don't like negative feedback. Just a thought. LOL!

Why don't they just invent a TV that controls the volume level at all times...it will automatically adjust when commercials come on...

I have always hated the commericals being so loud and its worse now since Larry's hearing is getting worse. So it gets really loud.

I know the reason they do it, is because, they want your attention, when you get up and use those commercials for munchies and potty breaks. They want to make sure you don't miss it. But it is incredibly annoying, and can make you jump if your still watching. I'm certainly glad that theres finally something in the works to have this rectified. I hate having to hit the mute button all the time.

I have a 'smart sound television.' The volume does not change with the commercials.... I bought it for that very reason.
My SIL has been watching commercials on MUTE for at least a decade now.
