Ok, this is the first time I've ever done this but it's not the first time I've attempted something I've never done before. Thank God for the internet for researching these things in advance.
Phase one of installing this new dishwasher was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated. The absolute first step was to measure all of the cupboard spaces to see where this thing would fit. That done and concluding that there was in fact only one possibility, we started by removing the countertop. Most UNFUN! It took us a while to figure out how the thing was secured. There are small plastic covers in the corners of the cupboard underneath the countertop that hide the screws that secure it in place. Once we removed that, we had to remove the plastic baseboard in front of the cupboard to see if there were any screws there. There weren't but it had to be removed anyway to move the cupboard forward. Once that was done, we had to figure out why the stupid cupboard piece was not coming out. Apparently it was attached to the cupboard next to it by a couple more screws. It was also firmly affixed to the actual wall behind it. Once those were removed....after much frustration I might add because of the screws stripping almost immediately, we finally were able to remove the cupboard part. I had a cup of coffee...cursed the whole project and then moved on to the next part. I slid the dishwasher easily into place. I wish! Apparently, there's a wooden base that it comes attached to this thing so that it can allow the box it's in to remain in shape. This wooden base must be removed before it will fit into any reasonable space.....and then the "feet" of the dishwasher have to be set back into it and adjusted to the proper height to fit under the countertop. Once the base was removed, I did in fact get to slide it into place. Looked so nice...almost as if I could turn it on. Sigh! 2 hours later and no patience left, I had my son help me hoist the countertop piece back on top of the whole thing and called it done for the night. I thought it was safer for everyone involved seeing as how I was on the verge of taking a hammer to the whole thing. I will say this, if you are needing to expend some mental energy, that's the time to tackle something big. You feel like you can accomplish anything as long as you have big tools.
Next steps are to be plumbing and electricity and then securing everything back in its place so that it doesn't all fall apart on me. Righ now, I don't even want to think about it. But, I will let you know how things come along as I go. Wish me luck. My children are especially looking forward to this since they do the dishes here. LOL
