It took a lot of tinkering but I finally came up with a BBQ sauce that is diabetic safe. Most BBQ sauces contain brown sugar. My recipe does call for a touch of pinapple juice which naturally has a little bit of sugar in it, but it is natural sugar from a fruit so it should be OK, it also has cinnamon in it which according to some studies lowers blood glucose levels as well as cholesterol levels in Diabetics.
This is more of a marinade than a sauce, but it is a saucy BBQ marinade.
Diabetic Friendly BBQ Marinade Sauce
½ cup red wine vinegar
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup dry red wine
3 cloves garlic pressed
½ teaspoon dried rosemary leaves
1 teaspoon pineapple juice
½ teaspoon sea salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
black pepper
½ cup chopped onions
1 teaspoon crushed parsley
1 tablespoon soy sauce
½ teaspoon cumin
Stir ingredients in a glass bowl and stir. Use as a marinade for beef, pork, or chicken. Allow to meat to marinate in sauce for at least 3 hours and up to 12 hours.
Bake or grill meat until it is at desired doneness.
