How many connections do you have? Have you commented on other people's work? Generally, I find if I give a comment, then I get a comment. Comment on one of my articles or photos, and I respond in kind.

I suspect that they advertise by sending mail to everybody in all their groups. (Spamming.) They also have a number of others that they leave comments on.

Personally, I don't care about the points. I am just interested in getting people to read my book (published here on Gather). So I go around looking for articles that seem to be related to the book's topic and leave comments mentioning the book.

Naturally, nobody believes that someone would offer a free book without there being a "catch" so few leave comments. But at least those who do usually have interesting things to say rather that just those "Interesting" or other three second taps.

It'll get better as you get to be friends with some of your connections and they are usually pretty loyal at keeping up with you and commenting regularly on your articles..

I disagree with Larry on this one. I have many people that are kind and comment on my stuff and they do this because for every comment they leave for me I leave one for them. If I'm not really interested in something they posted I still stop in and say hi. I don't send mass emails, the points that I do get are from hard work and built up friendships. When I'm finished checking on my groups and replying to comments, I will go in search of new people and make new connections in which add to my list of friends.

I too try to comment on my connections things but if they never return a comment then I tend to stop reading any of their things either. I don't have a lot of connections but do try to find those that have similar interests then it's easy to read and comment and hopefully others will do the same for you. Good luck.

Do you comment on other people's stuff a lot? Many people have a habit of "commenting back" everyone who comments on their articles.

I'm so busy lately I can barely even find time to post. I have a half dozen unfinished articles in my drafts folder!

I'm kind of new to this...do you post on sites that have a lot of activity? Do you write articles that lend themselves to response (are they controversial or strongly worded or do they promote an unorthodox viewpoint, etc) either by content or by open-ended statements? Sometimes just having the right title will get you more readers and thus more comments. I know that I don't have time to read every article that comes to my groups, so an interesting title means a lot to me. I've never posted an article myself, but I know what kinds of articles induce me to comment...like this one, which asked a question.

I almost forgot to mention...now that I have actually commented on what you wrote for the first time, I'll be watching for your name. Even this teeny tiny connection is a connection...I feel like I know you a bit better (strange how the mind works, isn't it?) and I'll be looking for your work.

I hate to load people up with unwanted emails .. I find them annoying -- so I don't want to do thatto people ... I gurss I'll just plod along ... Writing is good for me -- helps me clear the cobwebs out of my tiny brain..

I find that you have to keep connecting to new people all the time. I have made good connections over the past several months that comment on mine and of course comment on their stuff too. I am sometimes behind but I do get caught up and try hard to keep up with my connections that comment on my stuff as well. I have 346 connections now but not all of them are active so I am able to keep up for the most part.

Well, Linda ~ Your title sure got my attention! I gave you a "10" by the way. The squeaky wheel always gets the oil. And, there is also good advice in response to your question. I'll try to make an effort to follow your work too! Like someone mentioned, though, it is hard to keep up with posts and postings if you have a lot of posts in the groups that you manage. Especially if everything is interesting!

And, God help you if you are a talker and like to comment and can't stop yourself -- like me! hahahahah! It really eats up your time.
