Yesterday my daughter (who is 9) brought home an invitaion to a birthday party. In a normal household this would not be a reason to panic. But here it is. I have a VERY tight budget and this month has been particularly difficult as my husband needed emergency dental work and it has put us way behind in our bills.
So there I was racking my brain about what to do when lo-and-behold a $10 Borders gift card showed up from gather. YES!! {this was supposed to be for my daughters' teacher for Christmas but...., I will order a new one as soon as I can for her} I had $5 stashed for an emergency and this was it. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't find anything really good in my limited price range at Borders but I did! I found a "Beaded friendship braclet kit" on clearance for $7.99 ( I wish I had enough to get 2, i'd have stashed one for Christmas or to have on hand for the next party) and a how to draw type book/kit with paper and built in easel, also on clearance, for $4.99. VICTORY!! This little girl love to draw so it is a great gift for her.

You might ask why the panic, Well this particular little girl has shall we say "upscale" birthday parties. Last year they took SIX girls to Build-A-Bear workshop with a $25 budget per child and did the sleepover thing as well. This year it is some craft thing I have never heard of but it sounds expensive, as well as the overnight deal again. The girls always have a good time and the child is my daughters BEST friend. Everyone around kinda knows about our financial situation as the church has been posting us on and off in the "prayers for" section of the church bulliten. I kinda hate it (as it is a bit embarassing) but I could not live with out all the help I have recieved this last year so I smile and say thank you. I guess you could say it is a pride issue but I really wanted to get something that at least LOOKED nice.
I just wanted to say THANKS to all my gather buddies who helped me get that GC and to gather for it's timely arrival. Once again the lord provided for me in a time of need.

Here's ten stars and a comment toward more.
I hope your points will grow fast, so that you can get the next card shipped soon for your daughter's teacher. I am doing the same thing for my son's two teachers, and the cards are in the mail.
people around. God bless, rpw

My question is, do they send you the gift card in the mail? I'm relatively new, and have not gotten all this down, yet.
How do you notify gather, that you are ready to trade in your points for a gift card, and, also, besides Borders, and Home Depot, what other companies participate? Walmart? Any grocery stores?
Congrats! Another 10 points for you!
As a Christmas present to you, I will leave this Christmas greeting on all of your photos and articles. It might take me a while, as you have been pretty active, but I will get through them all, and I hope you will get a little point (or Gather cash) boost in time for Christmas.
I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season with lots of love, joy and family time.
We live in an upscale community but don't live like the rest of the people in my town. I'm afraid to allow my daughter to go to any of the parties (not that we have been invited) cause I would worry if my daughters gift was good enough for them.
Most of the kids she goes to school with, their parents have cadillac escalades, and some pretty expensive cars. I just have a little Malibu and I can only imagine what they are thinking about me.
Glad everything worked out for you. It looks like a great gift, I'm sure she really enjoyed it.
