I do not know much about writing. I like to write, and I like to learn. The one thing I do know, however, is that if you want to learn, it's best to do it from the best. I'm taking a break from writing so that I can learn and study up on techniques. Here are a couple of notes I found that you may like.
Start Here
Questions to think about.
- How do i take the reader someplace else and make him glad he went?
- How do I create an experience of another life so vivid and compelling that for the moment it exists in the mind, it obscures and obliterates the experiance of the reader's own life?
- How do I transport human conciousness into the realm of exhilaration and transformation?
- How can I get so deeply into my story that I am telling it from the inside out?
Writing has to be important.
- It's only important if it makes a difference. What difference does your story make?
What is a story?
- A person has a problem, he explores the problem until he/ she understands it, finally he/she makes a choice (usually a difficult one) that produces a transformation of understanding and reduces difficulty. So a story about athe experience of problem solving and lessons learned.
This is a small bit of notes I have gathered from ony the first chapter of David Gerrold's instructional book World's of Wonder: How to Write Science Fiction & Fantasy. For more of his helpful hints, feel free to check it out. I've found it really helpful.
