The Writers' Union of Canada contest re: Writing for Children offers a prize of $1500 - and the winner and finalists' work will be submitted to three publishers of children's books.
Any Canadian author who has yet to be published (or have a contract with a publisher) in any genre maybe enter.
Last year's winner, Jeff Pinkney, is from Peterborough ON, and attended Trent University - which just happens to be where I am off to next fall.
There is more information about how to enter this contest, and also about other contests for Canadian writers, on The Writers' Union of Canada website.

might use the Zach poem
Jax, You made it through the night. I'm so glad to see you posted here. Did you get any sleep at all? The information on CNN this morning about the damage in Atlanta is incredible. I'm glad you are all right.
and it wouldn't show under that username as it is posted under this one :)
I think you should use the Zach poem Flit.
Hope you're entering - whether you placed before or not, this is another year and with the batting average you've had with grad school, this might be the year.
I wish there was a contest like that in The US where Marge could enter her Flickertail PI stories. This would help her immensely.
