Home to Holly Springs by Jan Karon
Fr. Tim - Book One
Whether you're a long time fan of Jan Karon's Mitford series or meeting Fr. Tim for the first time, you will enjoy this book. It's down home writing style is easy to read and likable characters will move into your heart and stay. Like the Mitford books, Home to Holly Springs is a heartwarming story filled with humor, spiritual growth and mysteries. This is the first book of a new series.
Fr. Tim Kavanaugh, an Espiscopalian priest, is the main character in the Mitford novels. In Home to Holly Springs, an anonymous note motivates Fr. Tim to return to his hometown in Mississippi after an absence of thirty-eight years. Fr. Tim has mysteries to solve, feelings to resolve, and old hurts to absolve.
In this book, the reader learns more about Fr. Tim personally. As Fr. Tim explores his past, faces his inner demons and finally places some missing pieces in the puzzle of his early life, he learns, forgives and brings blessings to the people in his hometown.
Home to Holly Springs is inspirational as well as entertaining. Wisdom from various characters and sources gives the reader much to think about. "From every fresh cut comes new growth" is one of my favorite quotes.
I urge you to read this book. Accompany Fr. Tim on his journey of discovery and enlightenment and make new friends in Holly Springs. Treat yourself to this book and buy a copy or two for gift-giving.
Home to Holly Springs is 368 pages, published by Viking Press in October, 2007.
