Once More Unto the Breach!
It's happened once again, despite all hope.
Time did not stop, nor slow, though I dug in
My heels with all my might and tied with rope
The clock hands, as if they would not begin
At midnight ticking off the new year's glee,
Sharp fingers dragging with them new year's dawn
And all the new year's possibility
As fragile as a newborn reindeer's fawn.
Endangered as a baby starling caught
Within the sharp teeth of my neighbor's cat,
The plans I make on flimsy wings of thought
Trip forward into flame like Gujarat.
My new year's resolution is to wear
More fire-retardant garments, and to dare.

A fitting, albeit comedic, imagery for people who are caught red-handed with the preoccupations of a time long gone. Reluctant to let go, they will surely do anything to pace down if not stop the onslaught of time.
I squirm as I am guilty of a preoccupation that wears me down in this time-space continuum.
Somehow, the poem made for a stark contrast my own ineptitude with how ill-at-ease I am in my time management and such. But what the heck, it too had reminded me of the hope to be had with the coming year - a new time check: for me to materialize finally that "trip forward...".
Tracey, thanks again for choosing my New Year's effort -- hopefully it's an auspicious sign regarding my resolve for the months ahead!
The line ~ "As fragile as a newborn reindeer's fawn." . . . who would have thought of that but you . . . how clever.
I also liked this line . . . "The plans I make on flimsy wings of thought" . . . because it seals the title of the poetic piece.
Excellent work Gillian.
And I did bookmark your words that you added to my RESOLUTION. HUGS, HUGS, HUGS . . .
Rene

The plans I make on flimsy wings of thought
Trip forward into flame like Gujarat. The place'Gujrat' catched my attention and a feeling that you have a great knowledge about this place and related events.Glad to know such a bright person..An impressive example...People don't know that in which context you used 'Gujrat' but I applaud your talent here..
