Kylee: An Interview by Gather

I just came up with this idea a few minutes ago, so here's how it goes.  You, my friends on Gather, are the interviewers and I am the subject of the interview.  I do not claim to be all knowing, but I consider myself well-versed in a variety of subjects, so ask me anything about ,life in general, the latest celebrity heiress screw-up, God, literature,  and I will do my best to provide you with an answer.  The only rule that I have is that you ask only one question per post.  Let's have fun!!!!!

Why don't most drivers use their directionals?

Danielle, I have not heard of the term directionals, but if you mean directions, I think some drivers feel that they can get places on their own without directions. If you are referring to turn signals, I think that they are inconsiderate and have their minds in another world. Please correct me if you are wrong, and I will be most happy to reanswer you question.

What do you think is the relevance of the work of Galdos to 21st century culture?

Dorine, very interesting question. I have not heard of Galdos until your question. I just read a few articles about him, and plan on doing some further investigations on his works and life. So from what I have read, I would have to say yes, because he dealt with many issues that are current today such as poverty, social class issues, and government. Good question, thanks for asking.

I belive that they both have a lot of the same issues: too much partying, drinking, drugs, too many to name, but I will have to say that Britney is the biggest problem child because she has children of her own and her behavior not only puts herself in danger but also affects little Jayden James and Sean Preston as well.

Let's see, I have 500 questions and only 30 minutes for lunch, 18 of which I have already spent reading articles and comments. The latest book that I read was Harry Potter 1 and I am currently reading Harry Potter 2. Two of my favorite authors are Shirley Jackson and William Faulkner, they were both Southern authors known for writing short stories.

Okay, whether you live in a house or apartment, what is your favorite thing about your home space and how has that affected what you'd want in your next home, if you move on to one?

I live in condo with my parents and my younger sister, when she is not in college, I like that it is small because having a large house is hard to keep up with so when I eventually move into a place of my own I want something small and intimate. I am very creative and artistic so it will be filled with all sorts of art and sculpture and antiques.

Great! I'm glad I spurred you to explore one of the great novelists of the world! A follow-up: Which of his books is the only one to contain non-verosimilitudinous scenes and what does he say about the issues you raised?

I think that Marianela is his only book to contain nonverisimilitudinous scenes. I looked up the definition of verisimilitude and it is the quality of appearing to be true or real so nonverisimilitude must mean apearing to be not true or real. In Marianela, a young man regains his sight after a lifetime of being blind and rejects his best friend because she is ugly. This young man appeared to be true until her rejected his best friend. He was very liberal and anti-clerical, cleric, refering to a ministers garment, meaning he probably spoke out against religion as well. Very challenging question, Dorine, thanks. Also if you know of any good English websites about Galdos, I am very much interested.

It is not a novel but a short story that I absolutely love: A Rose For Emily. I had know idea what was happening until the end, very suspensful and he only gave away enough information to keep me hooked until the end.

What a great question, thanks for asking. I hope all hate and prejudice will end soon and I try to strive for a positive outlook on everything, but I encounter hate and prejudice everyday. It is everywhere on the morning,afternoon, and evening news, newspapers, magazines, movies, television, etc. I am currently unemployed at the moment and people think that I lie on my a$$ all day and don't even try and that to me is a form of hate and prejudice.

What an interesting question, thanks for asking Karen. Honestly, I am not sure how I feel on this issue. I know in the Bible, the Lord cast out demons and see it in movies and on the news. Most recently in the news a young mother and her father were charged for performing an exorcism on a toddler girl, very disturbing, the girl survived the ordeal. It seems a bit bizarre to me. It is still such a puzzling issue.

Good work with the word nonverosimiltudinous, and with learning about Marianela. Sorry, I've read Galdos in Spanish only so can't refer you to any English language websites.

Which US, UK and French authors do you think he compares most closely to?

Without doing any research and going from what I now about these authors, I will have to say Dickens for UK, Hugo for French, and I can't think of any US authors that stand out to me right now(Dickens and Hugo came right to mind when I read your question), but I will say Steinbeck, in particular Grapes of Wrath, because it dealt with poverty. I just do funny stuff, I make up funny dances, sing of key, do funny impressions, I can 't really explain myself sometimes, although when I was younger, I used to be able to stick my whole fist in my mouth and that made people laugh.

Well done. I also see Galdos as one of the greatest writers in the realist-naturalist movement. Therefore, in addition to V. Hugo, I think Balzac is a colleague of his. Realitic writing during the 19th century, in my mind, puts Twain in the camp as well. Both Galdos and Twain departed from verosimilitude in a novel, Marianela and Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.

Okay, thinking of Cervantes' work apart from the Quijote, how would you relate his work to that of Galdos more than to that of his contemporaries?

Unfortunately, Dorine, Quijote is the only work that I am familiar with, but an interesting fact that I did discover was that Cervantes was devotely Catholic and Galdos dispised religion.
