The darkness came; he softly slipped away;
no more those many chores that must be done;
no more of leaving to another day,
for anything that is must stay undone.
You close your eyes and you can feel him near,
for he is in your heart and in your soul.
Your face is soaking wet from all your tears;
you can’t rest on his shoulder to be whole.
You gaze down on his picture in your hand;
you see his strength, the kindness in his eyes;
you know that you will never understand
just why he had to go, he was so wise.
I’ve been just where you are, and I must say:
your grief will ease a small bit every day.

William, those two lines scan iambic pentameter. I do take liberties sometimes, but these lines are not the ones that do, IMHO. I do appreciate close critiques a great deal. So many thanks.
