(This is another poem I wrote when I was a teenager)
To be a friend or not to be
That's the question you ask me
You want me to do something that's wrong
I didn't know confusion could be so strong.
You're my friend and I care for you
But can't I be true to myself too?
We can be friends and not be the same
Everything doesn't have to be a game.
I think of the future while I live for today
You think only of the next time you'll play
I learn from the mistakes I live
While you ignore the wisdom experience can give
I'll read a book or admire the night
You're out partying under artificial light
But I'm there for you and you're there for me
That's what we each need to see.
I guess what I'm really trying to say
We're friends and we change each day
We can grow and experience each year
And not be the same and still be here.
