I just tried to submit an article at Associated Content and discovered that their promoted "more control over your content" means just what I feared it would -- no more upfront payment for previously published content!
I doubt I will be submitting much more to AC, as I mainly used it as a secondary market for previously published articles. (I think their pay is too low to be worthwhile for first rights, and I'm not good enough at marketing my work to get much in performance payments.)
Will anyone else be seriously affected by this change?

I didn't realzie they wanted first rights. Do they keep those rights? Does that mean you don't have the rights to your own work?
I'm trying to find a way to make money with articles, but I don't find many places that seem worth the effort.
You do get to keep rights to your work -- by "first rights," I meant "first publication rights." (Sorry for the lack of clarity!) So you could sell an article there first and then publish it here or elsewhere. Once you sell it to AC, however, it is worth less if you resell it to someone else.
Thanks for asking -- I'll email you more details.
