As many of you may know I have serious issues with stress. I am constantly trying to find ways to help reduce some of my stress besides medication. I do take mediation for it, but only occasionally because I do not like living my life in a fog. Not to mention it is impossible to stay medicated all of the time and still function like a normal human. Okay so I am far from normal but you know what I mean.
One of my newest stress relievers is called a Zen Garden. It is a Chinese stress relieving technique. Nothing actually grows in it. It is a small “garden with a rake, sand, and some decorative ornaments. The particular one that I have came with a CD of Zen Escape music. The music s very relaxing. It is the sound of waves crashing upon the shore with some instrumental music playing softly.
It is believed that by using the miniature rake and raking the sand is relaxing to the nerves. When added with the relaxing music it does wonders to relieve the stress that is built up inside of you. This may sound silly to some of you, but think back to when you were a kid. One of most kids favorite pastimes was playing in the sand with a rake or a shovel. We as parents spend a fortune on sand boxes and play sand for our children. I know my children at least can entertain themselves for hours playing in the sand. I never thought as an adult that I would enjoy playing in the sand, but I do.
My Zen Garden is very small, it takes up very little room, but it is a miracle worker on frazzled nerves. It was purchased (at my request) from my children as one of my Christmas gifts. It was purchased at a store called Romancing The Stone. I am also writing a review on this store because I think it is amazing. But instead of just telling how amazing it is, I decided to also tell you about some of the products that I have purchased there.
I would like to encourage those of you that have lots of stress in your lives to purchase a Zen Garden for yourself and begin to learn how to relax. For those of you that have an office job, it is a great thing to have on your desk for those stressful moments. And like I said previously they are small so it would not take up very much space.
For those of you who like soothing instrumental music I would strongly suggest getting one with the CD’s to go along with it.
I am including a picture of it. I will take the picture of the Zen garden beside my mouse to give you an idea of the size. They do have smaller ones and bigger ones. It mainly depends on your preference and need.
I am learning that there are many Chinese customs that promote health and stress reduction, through different types of meditation and relaxation techniques. Please be on the lookout for more reviews about relaxation methods as I will be writing more. I have several others to write about immediately and then I will be following them up with others as I learn about new ones.

Tina, I know the feeling. You may also want to try the meditation article that I posted. It is totally done online or you can download the voice guided meditation onto your computer so that you can have it anytime. And the best part about it.....IT IS FREE!!!! I have searched high and low for one that I feel will fit my needs and this is the only one I have found. I didn't want to order one from the internet because you never know what you are getting. I don't agree with the chanting route so that put me at a dead end. As I was ready to give up I found this one online and though I might as well give it a try it's free.
Mary Ann, next time you are at her house, pick it up and give it a whirl. Once I got over the "I am an idiot for playing in the sand" thoughts I found it works wonders.
