More about Brett: My passion for health and wellness began as a freshman in college, where I quickly realized that exercise and good nutrition were vital to releasing stress and maintaining balance. I became an AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) certified group fitness instructor and has taught for Gold’s Gym and Bally’s Total Fitness in New York. I taught all types of fitness classes, but especially enjoyed helping students understand fundamentals of nutrition, fitness and overall wellness.

I founded www.sheerbalance.com, a company dedicated to health and wellness, when I realized that many of my friends and colleagues constantly struggled with finding balance in their every day hectic lives. Further, I realized that many of these women were frustrated by the overwhelming amount of information that was contradicting, unclear and misleading when it came to healthy living. As a result, I saw a need to provide women with the right tools and information to make living healthy, easy and fun.

Making healthy choices is very important to me as a mom. I want my kids to grow up happy and healthy! They are so active and also in sports. I think it's important to teach them that lifestyle at a very early age!

I am focused and determined to lose atleast 6 more pounds before my 10th anniversary, which is coming up on March 20th. Not only is that our anniversary, it's also the very first day of Spring.

Last month, I made the commitment to myself to lose atleast 10 pounds before my anniversary. So far, I have lost 4 pounds. I am very proud of those 4 pounds. Those 4 pounds are gone and I never want to see them again.

I've recently really started to incorporate more vegetables into my diet. I'm especially into the Green Giant steamers here lately. Fresh vegetables cost a little bit more than I want to spend for my husband and I, especially if I buy enough of them to make a good recipe. With a steamer pack I can have several vegetables at once for a decent price, especially considering there are Green Giant coupons in the paper at least once a month.

Living healthy for me has always been difficult. My biggest downfall is junk food. I cook healthier for my kids, but honestly have not developed a like for veggies or most fruits. I sitll eat them because I figure I have to in front of the kids, but I am a closet carb freak who will eat a full bag of chips in one sitting if I do not watch it.

I am drinking so much water that I might be transforming into a fish. I can't ever remember drinking so much water in my life. But I can really see and feel the difference it has made.

Fresh fruits and veggies have always been a favorite in this house. Bananas are my latest "fix" and I'm buying them in bulk. :) I just can't seem to get enough bananas, I'm eating atleast two a day.

There are a lot of activities to participate in during the summer around here, and I looking forward to being able to do some races, as they are something I could never have considered a few short years.

I help my children be healthier by offering good foods, mostly homecooked with fresh foods.
I also kick them outside alot with bikes and things to do physically.

My goal for this summer is to buy a jungle gym or some outside play structure for climbing and extra stuff to do for them to burn off energy.

The difference in the fibers lies in how they are utilized by your body and broken down. One works more as a "sweeper," and the other is more of filler, i.e. expands in your stomach....I think. I could be confused and wrong!

Ok...if everyone can focus...we can learn. I know a lot of people want to chat, but I want to make sure you get something out of this. Insoluble and soluble. Insoluble increases the movement of food through your digestive system and increases stool bulk, helping to eliminate constipation and regulate the digestive tract. Any ideas of what foods give you that?

I'm really focusing on my water intake. I'm keeping a journal of everything that goes into my body, both good and bad. When I see it on paper, I am more focused and tuned in. I also find it's easier to make changes this way.

Shawnee...it seems that you are crazing insoluble type of fiber. The more starchy type...this would be found in grains. Whole grains. Try eating sun-chips. They are tasty and have fiber and whole grains. Also, try a slice of multigrain bread instead...with a little smart balance. Or, you could try a great fiber bar...like South beach Living Fiber Fit bars.

I think fruits are a main source of insoluble fiber...I also believe I've seen it advertised on some whole wheat/grain pasta boxes.

Well, soluble fiber is soluble, and goes into solution in the gut. insoluble just sits there. Not sure what the difference in effect is.

And to all of you saying oats...sorry...you're wrong. If you can believe it, oats are soluble! They are a bit strange that way.

I eat whole wheat bread that doesn't have alot of the extra junk like additives and preservatives. It just doesn't seem like those artificial things are good for any part of the body including the digestive system.

We so want a Wii Fit. My husband just bought a bike yesterday and next month were going to buy one for me so we can go on bikerides. I would love to get into shape without losing any of the weight I have.

Soluble dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. It can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels. Have you ever had oats? They sort of melt in your mouth...also that is why oats are so great for lowering cholesterol!

What does it mean that oats are soluble when it comes to your weight?

Now most soluble fiber foods include fruits. Although, some are veggies:
Apples, Barley, Beans, Citrus Fruits, Carrots, Oats, Peas and Psyllium
