Here's a link to my original resolution for those who want a review:
Add to the family by Annette E. — new years resolution, adoption, family | Gather
The reader's Digest version being we are in the process of adopting our three beautiful foster daughters.
So, here we are today. Illinois requires that you foster a waiting child for six months before you can adopt. We are now four months into our goal. The girls have settled back into our lives pretty smoothly. They have their occasional ups and downs as anyone would expect. They are happy here, and we're ecstatic they are back, but there are days when they miss their birth family, friends and old school. But overall it is going pretty well. The girls are in counseling and their therapists all think they are adjusting well and are happy to be back. Soon we will have our six month period in and will be able to schedule a court date to terminate the birth parent rights and for the adoption to be made final! If everything goes as planned, my resolution will be complete within just a couple more short months!
On a somewhat seperate note, while we had planned to wait a year or two until the girls were all settled in before we looked at adopting again, they are doing so great and everything seems to be progressing pretty smoothly, that we have been submitting our homestudy for consideration regarding a few other special needs children, and we are being considered for another little girl! They are supposed to make their final decision on which family will be the best match for her by next week, and we are in the final group of three families! If we are chosen, they want to plan the move for the end of the school year. So around the time the girls' adoption is final we may be starting our next adventure in parenting! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
