I enjoy writing short stories. But certainly I do not follow any systematic writing plan hitherto. For me, story writing is some thing like an occasional exploration to my inner self. Dreams, haunted experiences, untold thoughts and many more are there. While I stroll among them, all of a sudden, my right hand may seek pen and paper, now a days ‘Key Board'.
Every resolution should have a critical initiator, as in the case of revolutions. Reason for a resolution and desire for the same will be there, however, to make it happen finally, a critical initiator is required. Now, for me, the critical initiator is resolutions.gather.com. Yes, it made my finally resolve to write short stories with a systematic writing plan as given below.
- In 2007, I will write at least one short story in every fortnight and post them in the Gather.
- During the end of 2007, I would publish a ‘gathering of my tales'.
For fulfilling my resolution:
I will spare at least 30 minutes for creative dreaming/ writing between 9 pm and 11 pm every day, after my day's work.

If it's at all possible in your life, writing early in the morning can be a better way of getting ideas, plots, daydreams, nightmares, poetry, prose, just anything down on paper in order to get going. You may want to expand later on something which you wrote when you were beginning another fine day, when your mind was uncluttered with the events of that day. I have written several pieces at that time of day, only to later make them into poems and even plays.
I would recommend Julia Cameron's The Right To Write to ease you into some good habits to open your mind for writing.
You simply have to do it to do it! If you have the Writing Bug, you must write, every day, about anything, everything! Don't wait for the inspiration, give it a kick! Leave the editing until later, say after a week. Select for publication, say in Gather or through the Press at some time in the near future.

I dream better with a pen or a keyboard in my hands. some folks have their flow in the morning, some after lunch and some late at night. whatever works for you. And if you are serious, then your muse will learn to show up when you are working.
