In 2007 I resolve ...

To embrace the truth. I have a tendency to live in a wish-fulfilling fantasy.

Last year when I was living in India, I expected that once I landed my job and came home with my beautiful Tibetan husband, we would live happily ever after. Well, it's been nine months since I came back to the US and I'm not even sure what the future holds now.

Whereas one side of the coin is a fairy tale, I'm often afraid to flip it over. So in 2007, I really want to embrace that other side - see the reality, be willing to dig deep and really examine the worms under the rocks of my life.

Because for sure, when I do this, I'm going to find some real gold, not the fool's gold of my imagination.

Thanks, Trish and Tony. So far I haven't made much progress ... but my husband is still visiting in India. I guess when he comes back, I'll have more chances to pay attention to what's under the rock. Thanks for the encouragement anyway. And good luck in 2007.

I hope your dreams are working out, Stirling. I´ll never forget when I brought my beloved Spanish wife back to California, the hopes and dreams I had! And it was so rough for awhile, so many things we had to resolve. But we are still together, 11 years later, I am living in Spain, our dreams and hopes are brighter than ever, my sense of the exotic now includes her world as mine has become hers.

What perfect timing, John. Thanks for the good example. I went to the airport to pick up my husband today - he went to India for a 3 month visit, mostly out of homesickness. So it's a new chapter ...

Thanks, Patry. I think everyone's life is a fascinating adventure, in the sense that we're all just walking novels. I love your articles, by the way. Writing is our joy. I've been uncovering the rock ... it's been a great experience of moving to a different level of awareness. Somehow the truth is the most reassuring basis for all things ... no matter what it is, I find it gives me nourishment. Good luck.

Yes, it is, Barbary! I had forgotten this resolution - and a lot certainly has happened in between. In facing my truth, I found that I am doing better all alone - my husband has moved to California and somehow we're still in love. Maybe that's the shape our marriage is going to take for a long time - or maybe it's just a temporary period. He might end up back in India, since that homesickness is more than skin deep. We'll see. I have no regrets. Life is the ultimate love affair.
