Been a while, so here goes…
First off, for those who have logged onto my page, I urge you to watch the trailer for “Sunshine,” the new film by Danny Boyle (“Trainspotting,” “28 days later”). It’s about a crew of people sent to re-ignite the sun. The trailer is great. Due for release in August.
“Hannibal Rising” – Hannibal Lechter when he was young. Afterwards, the title will probably change to “Box Office Receipts Sinking.”
“Reign Over Me” – Using a song by the Who, Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler (who looks a LOT like Bob Dylan in the trailer) are former college roommates who run back into each other. Cheadle is a professional doctor, Sandler is… getting over the tragedies of his life. More serious fare for Sandler.
“Seraphim Falls” – Post- Civil War movie about a man (Liam Neeson) tracking down a retired General (Pierce Brosnan) heading into the West. Looks great.
“Live Free or Die Hard” – What? Dude, it’s been at least a decade since we last care about John McClain, and I don’t remember anyone caring then.
“Blades of Glory” – Will Ferrell and Jon Heder star as competing ice skaters who have to work with each other in order to compete in ice skating again. I’ll wait for the video, thanks.
“Fred Claus” – Vince Vaughan plays the younger brother of Santa (Paul Giamatti). Guess this one is going into my Blockbuster rental queue also.
“The Astronaut Farmer” – Billy Bob Thornton as a man who builds his own rocket to space after being declined by NASA. The government becomes involved, threatening to kill him if the project actually works. Virginia Madsen is his supporting wife. Metamucil waits for him to succeed to offer product endorsements.
“Dead Silence” – From the Director and Writer of Saw (the first one), a woman’s body (along with her collection of 100 dolls, each with their own coffins) is unearthed and police are sent to investigate. Apparently you go into the house filled with dolls and a crazy woman, you scream, and you have your throat cut out.
“1408” – John Cusack is a man who lost his daughter and continually searches the afterlife for her, disproving ghosts at every turn. He is invited to a hotel where in room 1408, fifty-six people have died within the first hour of their time spent there. This looks to be one of the better adaptations of Stephen King, which also means it probably has little to do with the actual story. But, I’ll see it anyway.
See ya at the movies!
-Chas
