Slagging book sales, be damned! Two publishing vets banded together to launch a new bookshop this weekend in the cozy community of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. With a combined 25 years in the books biz, Jessica Stockton Bagnulo and Rebecca Fitting will host the official public opening of The Greenlight Bookstore on Saturday, October 24. See below for the official invite.
You can read about their adventure in launching the shop on their blog, A Bookstore In Brooklyn: http://abookstoreinbrooklyn.blogspot.com/. Also be sure to check out the AOL Small Business profile on Jessica and Rebecca: http://tinyurl.com/ykbzxgm

| Dear Friends and Fans of Greenlight, The big news: Greenlight Bookstore is now open! We started taking sales on Saturday, and we're thrilled by the response of the neighborhood already. We're still putting out little fires and tweaking our system to make sure it's all set up right (so bear with us if we have a few hiccups), but now that we're open, we love visitors! Come see us anytime; our hours between now and the end of the year are 10 to 10 Monday through Saturday and 12 to 8 on Sundays. Best, Jessica & Rebecca and the Greenlight Bookstore staff |

Too bad more people can't open a book store because sales on books are so bad.
I'll try to get to this opening. I'm just about 30 minutes away by train.
I would normally agree, but Jessica was the recipient of a prestigious grant to get this going, and she's got a ton of experience in the space (and therefore a killer Rolodex of supporters). Also, if there's a community that's going to embrace a local bookshop and patronize it for the sake of its indie-ness, it's Brooklyn.
