This is another great writing from Mr. King. The first story I was ever willing to spend time with was “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon”. I had always thought of his writing as things like “Cujo” and didn’t need any more horror in my life. But a girlfriend said to try “The Girl….” and I did. From then on, I was hooked. “Lisey’s Story” is about a woman who lost, Scott, her writer husband and about the “PLACE” he went upon occasion. She hasn’t cleaned out his study where he did his writing even though he has been gone over two years. As she finally begins the job of doing this, two things happen. She is being stalked and threatened by a person who wants her husband’s papers and one of her sister’s need to be committed. Between these two things, Lisey has her hands full. In order to save her sister from becoming a permanent resident in the “home” and to save herself from the stalker, she has to face and use the “place” Scott went. If she is not careful, the “place” may become a permanent part of her instead of saving her and her sister. Mr. King works the ideas of creativity, madness and love all together to write a novel that was hard to put down. 16 CD’s provide a novel that is long enough to explain everything that was brought up in the novel. There is even an afterward from the author himself where he explains where some of his phrases come from. The reader, Mare Winningham does a good job reading the novel. While I didn’t notice definitely different voices for each character, I was still able to tell who was speaking without losing the thread of the story. She is a clear and easy to listen to reader.

This great big, drawn out book goes on and on and on and repeats and repeats. It was as if King was just trying to pad the book, fill pages.
I bought this book as a new hard cover and disliked it so much I gave it to the used-book store at our library. That was around last Christmas, and it's still sitting there at the used-book store.
BTW, I didn't READ the book; I listened to an audiobook.
