I am delighted to announce that we have selected our initial group of over 60 Gather Correspondents, who will be contributing regular columns to Gather. The interest in this new program has been incredible. We have received over a thousand writing samples from potential Correspondents, and we are still reading through those submissions and interviewing people for the remaining program slots. Although we are launching our new Gather program with 60 writers, we will ultimately have a total of 70 Correspondents and 18 alternates. If you submitted a writing sample, you may still hear from us as we complete our search for the Gather Correspondent Corps. We will continue to review the writing samples published to our Correspondent Corps groups through Tuesday, January 30, and going forward, will reach out to members when correspondent positions open up based on their writing published across Gather.
I would like to personally thank everyone who applied to be a Gather Correspondent. We are so impressed and appreciative of the quality of the writing you submitted, which has made our selections extremely difficult. Our Editors made their decisions based on a few factors: the quality of the writing and the style of the writer's work, as well as their topical knowledge. Many of our correspondents have unique perspectives and experiences to share with the Gather community. Each of the candidates selected also participated in a follow-up interview. Below, you will find the list of Correspondents we have chosen so far - many who have been established Gather writers, and some new folks who will become recognized contributors on Gather over the next few weeks. In addition to great writing skills and topical talent, all of our Correspondents have amazing passion: passion for writing, passion for the community we are building, and passion for the topic area they have been selected to write about on Gather.com.
The Corps has committed to provide content consistently on key topics site-wide as a starting point for conversations on Gather. As always, we expect that most of what is shared here (and much of the most exciting and creative stuff) will come from the community at large. With your help, we will continue to search for and feature the best conversations happening across the entire Gather community. And every Gather member that publishes has the opportunity to earn Gather points or cash for their contributions.
Gather friends, please join me in welcoming our new Correspondents, and thanks again to all of you for your daily contributions to our community and conversations.
Tom

:)
Awesome!
And... Tom.. how did Diana Raabe get overlooked for News? She's a very excellent writer!

Respectfully, I would like too ask the same question as Lynn G. "How was Diana Rabbe over look?" She is one of our best on political reporting. Again, great addition to Gather.
Hopefully this will add sophistication to the Gather site. Good job Tom.
Looking through the Music slots I see that most are NEW writers to Gather, joined within the last month or so, and appropriately young, as we know that older folks know nothing about music.
So Congratulations.
I'm pretty new here - in fact I joined around a week before submitting my sample - and it's an honor to have been chosen as a music correspondent. You have a great community here and I look forward to learning my way around and 'meeting' new people here. Feel free to message me with any advice or questions. I'm excited to be here, and I'm sure I'll enjoy myself.
Meryl, I believe there was a sudden influx, as news of this opportunity was posted far and wide on writer's forumsw and such.
Gather is an excellent place to be!
