Are you a real American? According to the Republicans you may not be. Do you think you are a real American and why?
Here is a view from Rosa Brooks of the Los Angeles Times:

Diversity has made this country great. With so many immigrants bringing their gifts with them, other countries have referred to this as a 'brain drain'. As we continue to include women in leadership roles in our society and there is greater participation by other races and ethnicities throughout our society and government, things can only get better.
Wait, if I don't think that everything is perfect that would indicate that I am not a "Real American". Maybe change it too scary. I better stay with my good old dependable maverick.
If you mean a person who loves his country and is against 4 more years of it's destruction by the Executive Branch, then yes.
Yes, I am a real American as are McCain / Palin supporters. It goes against what American stands for to suggest otherwise. This scorched earth, winner take all concept is ill-advised. Even if they win (highly doubtful), it will look like the last eight years. I never voted for Bush but I can't imagine it has been fun for anyone who did. And if they lose, being a minority asserting you are the real American just isn't going to get you anyplace.
Thanks for the tip Nippy. I'm a reader not a writer and will do better in the future.

I don't know how you keep going Brian, chin up my friend.
I'm disgusted by pro-Alaska Palin and her condescension.
Real Americans don't believe in equal pay for unequal work. We don't need to spread the wealth around. We need to encourage integrity and pioneering spirits.
Perhaps you think people completely devoid of a social conscience define this country. I'm hoping like heck that November 4 proves you wrong.
Oh, and I put myself through college - I didn't even get a student loan. If I'm going to give money to this country, let it be to heal the sick and feed the hungry, rather than bombing villages.
I also believe that it is every person's responsibilty to help take care of those who cannot physically or mentally take care of themselves. Declaring that these people are all faking it and don't deserve help is a Republican myth based on greed. Every world religion states that this is the mission of humanity, help those who cannot help themselves.
All ten voters in my family are voting for Obama. Yep he is going to raise our taxes, but our taxes have been cut too much and we owe our souls to the Chinese. He is our best chance to redeem this country morally and financially. He cares about people not corporations. He will not get us into mindless wars which kill our youg people and hundreds of thousands of innocents abroad. He is our best hope.
Don't be blinded by greed.
Not only are you not a "real American", you're also a socialist!! ;-)
Again, thanks for lifting my spirits.
