I'm watching Meet the Press. Colin Powel is saying that he doesn't believe McCain has a grasp on the economic situation and he feels Sarah Palin isn't ready to be the VP. He thinks McCain's campaign has run a poor campaign. He thinks that the level McCain's campaign has stooped to has gone "too far". He also thinks that McCain has leaned too far to the right. He is disgusted by the right's statements about Obama being a Muslim. His feelings are that although Obama is not a Muslim, Muslims should not be looked down upon just for their religion.
In regards to Obama, he feels that Obama has the ability to inspire. Gen. Powell feels that Obama will be ready and is capable to lead the United States. He said Obama has surrounded himself with capable people. In regards to Ayers, he feels connecting Obama to Ayers is a stretch. Powell says that although they have sat on a Board together, that should not imply that they share the same thoughts. Powell said that race has nothing to do with his decision. He said if that was the case, he would have made his decision long ago.
He has said that both men would make great leaders.
What are your thoughts?

Gen Powell has the respect of this nation, the Military and the press.
A hat trick for OBAMA!
Yes WE CAN!
Most exciting Sunday morning I've had in quite a while....I'm loving it!
"It troubled me. We have two wars. We have economic problems, we have health problems. ... Those are the problems the American people want to hear about, not about Mr. Ayers, not about who's a Muslim and not a Muslim. Those kind of images going out on Al Jazeera are killing us around the world," he said.
What he says here is true. McCain and Palin should be concerned that their message about Obama palling around with terrorists will be picked up by Al Jazeera and spread. McCain's campaign is putting us in danger with that kind of talk.
Desperate and losing, the GOP will now begin to eat its own.
I am glad to see Gen. Powell’s endorsing Obama. And from the 7 minute clip that I saw of his appearance on Meet The Press, he presented a good case for his decision – I will check out the entire interview when I get the chance.
But I must say, I am a little skeptical about the impact it will have on the race – I just don’t think it will be very significant. Les hope I am wrong.
Elizabeth, I agree.
I don't really think Powell's endorsement will have any effect. There was no surprise about who Powell would endorse. It's been whispered for months. Who can have any regard for what that guy might say, at this point, when we remember him before the United Nations so honestly and sincerely supporting the war effort? Showing strong and unshakeable support for something he now says he really didn't believe in.
He hasn't had much credibility since the last time he lied to us, and helped start a war that now, he says, was against his own principles.
He is one of the biggest enablers , he didn't get duped, he went along with it, and sold out a lot of people who believed in him then. Is there any bigger malfeasance, especially from a military man?
He's the one who went before the United Nations, presented support for the war in all honesty and with his most sincere endorsement of an issue he has since stated he didn't believe in. How could anyone now place any faith in what he might say, realizing that he may later say he really didn't mean it.
Why wasn't he outspoken then, if he disagreed? Does he show the same poor judgement on everything, including endorsements, that he speaks publicly about ... making sure he has an exit strategy by not endorsing sooner? Why didn't he resign ... at that time .... from the administration if he truly had objections to what he was presenting so forcefully? All politicians lie...granted. Just don't expect that a liar of this magnitude will be swaying any votes.
There are many questions about Powell's behavior then...and now. Even he has never fully explained, to everyone's satisfaction, why he boldy went against, what he claims now, were his principles.
For me, He has long since lost any credibility he once had.
Thank you for your comment. I respect your opinion. It's up to the voters to see what impact Gen. Powell's endorsement will have. A lot of people will stay true to their party, regardless of which candidate gets which endorsement. A lot of folks, though who are independants or undecideds may look closer at Obama now. Colin Powell has spent the last 50 years serving our country. That goes a long way to some voters. While you may no longer respect him for the actions of his past, a lot of Americans do.
We can only predict what will happen on November 4th. We can look at polls next week to speculate what this effect this endorsement will have on this election. But we won't know for another 16 days.
Kentucky for Barack Obama. Wear your Obama shirts proudly and vote Barack Obama in 2008!
You've got that totally backwards. It is BECAUSE Colin Powell has been full of regret since the day he sat in front of the world at the U.N. and repeated the lies of the bush administration, that Iraq had WMD. The bushies, and now McCain as their surrogate, made a fool of Powell once, and he is too smart to let them continue to tell their lies.
However, Powell lost my respect the day in 2003, that he told those lies, he knew he was being used, but he was too protective of his political career at the time to speak out against them when it could have mattered. I believe it is 5 years of his own guilt, that has driven him to support Obama. At this point, whether Obama really needs him is questionable.
