Sen. Barack Obama says the personal attacks levied against him by the campaign of his presidential rival, Sen. John McCain, particularly references to his association with 1960s anti-war radical Bill Ayers, are an attempt to "score cheap political points."
"Why don't we just clear it up right now," Obama told ABC News' Charlie Gibson in an exclusive interview for World News. "I'll repeat again what I've said many times. This is a guy who engaged in some despicable acts 40 years ago when I was eight years old. By the time I met him, 10 or 15 years ago, he was a college professor of education at the University of Illinois . . . And the notion that somehow he has been involved in my campaign, that he is an adviser of mine, that . . . I've 'palled around with a terrorist', all these statements are made simply to try to score cheap political points."
Obama said that the McCain campaign is making personal attacks "the centerpiece of the discussion in the closing weeks of a campaign where we are facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and we're in the middle of two wars."

All hail Obama!
While attack ads play to the base of each party, they are not viewed favorably by Independents and the Undecided voters. I detest the attack ads on both sides, because they are vile, and because they act as a distraction from the real issues that need to be addressed. It seems like the candidates are saying "If I can't win on issues, because I can't adequately address the issues, then I can distract the voters with attack ads."
Mr. McCain has therefore solidified his impending journey to the eighth circle. Bon voyage!
Shing, good point. Don't you wonder how McCain keeps from choking on all the words he has had to eat in this campaign? He made fun of Obama's "celebrity" status and then turned around to brag about the attention Palin drew. He practically spit every time he said government, politician, or bailout, and now he is asking people to trust him to be the politician to increase government and bailout some more. He scowled at Obama's message of hope and change, until he realized it was working for Obama so he would try to pretend it was his.
This is a clear indicator that they lack the required substance and abilility to lead this country. Obama is smart enough, he is good enough and by golly people like him. We need intelligent leaders not mud slingers to lead us out of this mess.

And Holly, do you have any proof of your accusations? Ayers gave a speech in Venezuela in 2006 and has been there several times with his friend Chavez. Chavez hates America. Do you care about that? Nope.
Gov. Palin has been a registered Republican since the eighties.
It's not just Obama's relationship with Ayers that bothers me but it's Ayers, Wright, Father Phfleger, Rezko, and who knows how many other radicals. I feel that he's been less than truthful about his associations.
I would expect that this will all come up at the final debate next Wed. I would love it if Obama turned to McCain and said "Okay, you've got questions for me - ask them. Let's resolve it now". It won't happen but how cool would that be?
BTW, its founder was killed while trying to buy plastic explosives when the deal went bad.
You gotta love it! The repeat, repeat, repeat mantra in action RIGHT HERE!. STILL mention Ayers even though the truth is painfully obvious. And what a great closing sentiment!
McCain covered for Abramhoff and who knows how many other, filthy criminals?
McCain crashed 5 times in the military and who knows how many others?
McCain called his spare wife a vile name and who knows how many others?
McCain flip-flopped on torture and who knows how many other things?
This is fun! And easy too. No wonder the simple-minded use this kind of thinking!
