Furthermore, I learned in Biblical college classes that Jesus was a zealot, a dissident, went against the status quo, and that was pretty much why he got into trouble with . . . um . . . the CONSERVATIVES.
Now where do you think Jesus would be right now?
I mean, Jesus went around hangin' out with the lowlifes of societies -- drunkards, and what they called, "whores", and . . . my, my, my . . . the lowest of all the people were those traitors who collected taxes for the Romans. The Jewish people HATED those guys, and Jesus had (gasp) the nerve (would have been like heresy today) to invite one of THEM to even become one of his Apostles.
Bad, bad Jesus. Tsk, tsk! How dare he!!!!
The Apostle in question? Why, Matthew, of course! That bad guy who wrote one of the gospels!!!
That's why they waited until the dead of night, when the people were asleep to GET HIM, so by the time all their dirt was done, it would be tooooo late!
Heh, heh, heh. Naw, they weren't going to take the hit for THAT! Lay it on Pilate.
Pilate had sense, too. Uh-uh. Don't lay this mess on me. This man ain't done nothing to me, OR to Rome. I'm getting out of this mess! They gonna take Barabbas, and I'll have washed my hands of this mess. Ain't gettin' me stuck with this . . .
Nobody wanted to get stuck with the blood, fearing . . . the PEOPLE!!!
There is a lesson to be learned in this.
How did Obama say it?
Something like,
Nothing can stop millions of voices calling for CHANGE.
Ya think?
I know that my mom would cry her heart out over babies all over the world, and send as much money as she could, adopt babies in various countries, but you can't adopt them all.
Then after praying about it, her prayer was answered and this extends to abortion, if you believe that abortion is murder:
For every little life that leaves this earth, it goes to be with God, and that is God's plan -- to have that life WITH Him/Her, and NOT here to continuous suffer.
The way her prayer was answered was for her to grieve NO MORE, but to thank the Lord that the babies were now in God's Hands.

As far as Gay marriage? There is nothing in the Bible about Gay/Lesbian marriage. They need to quote their Biblical source(s) if they have it, although I already know what source(s) they may have, but it doesn't address Gay/Lesbian marriage.
Finally, according to the Word, Jesus was care to say, and practiced it, that he judged no man (obviously meaning humanity). However when the Establishment came up in his face, he answered their charges, tricks, indictments, and insults in a straightforward manner. They finally got tired of trying to outsmart him, and left him alone.

People need to stop running around pointing their finger at others so much.
Just like the woman they caught in the very act of adultery, came to Jesus and stated the LAW demanded that she be stoned to death. Hah!
______________________________________
It doesn't read this way in English, something gets lost in translation, but what Jesus really says to them
We think he says:
Those of you without sin cast the first stone.
NOPE.
The correct translation is
Those of you without this [particular sin, meaning adultery], cast the first stone.
I do so wonder about people running about forever making accusations.
If you know the Bible (and I have no idea if you do or not -- not a crime either way -- when Jesus looked up again from writing in the dirt, all of the woman's accusers were G-O-N-E, GONE!
He told the woman since they didn't (really couldn't) accuse her, that he wasn't accusing her either. Go in peace and sin no more.
His nature; he is NOT an accuser. So, why are so many Christians -- calling people baby murderers, and putting down Gays and Lesbians? I don't get it. Jesus would DEFINITELY not do that.
Obviously.
I like this bumper sticker. Too bad I don't have room for it.

Judge not according TO THE APPEARANCE, but judge righteous judgment
~~John 7:24 (you have PROVEN you haven't a clue as to what that means, Walters)
__________________________________________________
Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
~~John 8:15 (spoken by Jesus after they tried to condemn the woman found in adultery -- a fleshly sin, just like YOU, Linda Walters call YOURSELF being someone's fleshly judge when you don't hardly have the right. When did YOU die on a cross?)

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me
~~John 10:32
(Drawing men to you certainly sounds like an ORGANIZER to me
___________________________________________
10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
"Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
~~Rev 12:10
Um, Sandy and Robert: does this sound like any particular people that you've seen about on Gather? Well, the Bible calls this spirit, "the great dragon, the old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan" (Rev 12:9) and further goes on to say that he "deceives the whole world." These are NOT the characteristics of God, but the very opposite of God, and Jesus.

Finally this:
John 12:44-50
44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
with particular emphasis on this:
47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
So, if a person calls himsef or herself a Christian, translated, a "follower or disciple" of Christ, then why aren't they following his example? He said HE did NOT judge, even when people did not hear his words. The reason is obvious . . .
31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
~~John 8:31-32
But in order to CONTINUE in something, you would have had to START in the first place. YOU apparently have NOT, you accuser YOU!
Not let me alone. It would be Christianlike if you let others alone as well. Not you, or I are in any position to be running around judging ANYBODY. I know that I'm not qualified to die on a cross as a spotless lamb, and I am VERY certain that you aren't either. As the good book states, they looked for someone who WAS worthy; only the Lamb was found worthy. Just let people alone to take the speck out of their eye, while -- as Jesus put it in his Sermon on the Mount -- you see to the HUGE 2 by 4 or so long piece of wood in your own eye.
Robert, while I'm glad I stopped back in for a minute, I don't have time for people like this. The only place for them is to start is on their knees. I'm through with them, but please do not listen to them. They have nothing, at least not from Jesus, to offer you. Jesus would offer LOVE.
Religion has no place in politics.
We know the republicans are religious hypocrites and that should be all the warning we need.
Religion has no place in politics."
Jack E. - I agree with you on that. I think people are really fed up with the Republican hypocrites and feel like the hypocrites need to be confronted. People have been hesitant about confronting them in the past and now they are saying bully us no more with your corrupted version of Christianity.
It would appear to me that Christianity would place emphasis on the new testament, not the old.
"Go from the presence of a foolish man [or woman],
When you do not perceive in him [or her] the lips of knowledge."
~~Proverbs 14:7
Do not be upset with her, or laugh at her; rather pity her, for I believe that this one may really believe what she says, and may not know she is in error. She thinks she has the gift of discernment, and is able to tell whether or not I have read the whole Bible. My, my, my. Let this alone, please people; it is a waste of our time.
Julia: I came back to click on you. Remember your email to me. I remembered seeing you on here when I first signed on a few hours ago; couldn't find you anywhere else . . .
As far as the Hebrew scriptures,
Proverbs 4:7, are THEY understood. Jesus came not to destroy, but to fulfill, and he elucidated them is what.
Now Proverbs 4:7
"Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding."
Get understanding, UNDERSTANDING, UNDERSTANDING!
I'm not speaking to any of you -- Sandy, Robert, or Julia.
His Sermon confuses you, and in your guilt, you pretend to "understand" Him. His Teaching escapes you, and not even the prostitute can teach you, or rob you of His Wisdom. You have but the smallest "speck" in your eye, yet still cannot comprehend what the existence of the "Plank" even means.
You've learned nothing, and you know nothing.
Oh, Sandy, please don't tell me it's so. You really aren't one of those people who has her car plastered with bumper stickers, are you?
:)
Secondly, this was an interesting post, although, as a liberal, I know I don't think of Obama as a messiah and haven't heard any one I know think of him that way. Actually, I like him because he's closer to being a regular, middle-class citizen than any of the other politicians I've seen. But, one thing about it gets to me, as it always does when I read these posts where religious Christian experts start judging others. I thought that Christianity teaches the Law of the Old Testament was ended when Jesus came. And, I know that these people don't seem to judge mixing different materials together in an outfit a sin and give themselves lots of leeway when it comes to coveting their neighbors modern-day ass (SUV), but then hang on to the part about men lying with men. It's all part of the same set of laws, people. Do you or do you not believe Jesus was the messiah who ended all that? Besides that, do you or do you not believe he said to not judge?
Robert, you crack me up.
