This is why McCain loves this venue, because usually, though this man stood up to him, he gets away with the lies. People, in this sort of face to face meet up, rarely wish to force the issue, whether out of politeness, or embarrassment, and he gets away with baldfaced lies. If Obama was there, he wouldn't get away with it, but on the other hand, Obama would have to be so confrontatory, because the lies are so prevalent, it might cast him as something he's not. I think the debates should be very interesting.

One of the things I actually used to respect about John McCain - and this was not too terribly long ago, a matter of months, really - was the fact that he pretty much granted the media unrestricted access. The problem was that, when just about anybody could ask him just about anything and he'd TRY to answer it, he wasn't considered a particularly viable candidate because he had a tendency to say a lot of contradictory, uninformed and otherwise indefensible things. There were many who thought he was his own worst enemy.
But his handlers put a stop to that. I actually remember hearing the news story about it on NPR. Enter Sarah Palin a couple weeks later, and the sort of unfathomable media storm she's generated, and suddenly he's 'in the running' again.

You know he does not want Barack Obama at these functions. His/their constant ranting about how Obama is afraid to do the Town Hall meetings with him are absurd. I heard early on that Obama said no because McCain did want to screen the crowd and questions. I don't know that this is true, but I have no trouble believing it.
I so need to get into one of these town hall meetings and ask a question. Let him ramble on and then ask "I'm sorry, I have no idea what the hell you just said. Would you mind answering my question now?

Basic reasoning tenants prohibit making a claim and supporting it with statments that have nothing to do with the claim.
