396 Friends!

I just checked my Friends List and I have 396 friends on my list.  Wow!  As I scrolled through them I realized that I don’t know who half of them are.  That’s sad.  I love the Gather social network site and I love all the friends I’ve made on here.  It has been a fun and enjoyable experience and I have learned many things from each one of you.  Some things are happy things, some things are sad things, some things are funny things, some things are things that I’m not too sure I even wanted to know but it’s too late now and some things are just mean spirited, but mostly I’ve learned that we all have one thing in common and that’s the fact that we all like Gather or we wouldn’t be here.

I decided that I would spend the rest of this day saying “hello” to all the friends on my friends list.  Since I don’t know how to do a mass email, I’ll say hello to each friend by posting a comment on one of their articles and if they don’t have any articles or posts or pictures, I’ll post a hello to them on a ping.  I hope you all have something posted so I can contribute to your points earnings.  My hello is going to be the same to everyone.

I know what you mean. Some people who's requests I've accepted haven't even told me why they want to be friends. Do we live near each other? Do they like my icon? Do we have a similar interest? Sometimes I think they just want me as a "friend" so they can say "look how many friends I have!" Like I'm in their trophy case or something.

I have a little over 500 friends and every time I go through the list to pare it down I find that I have connected with everyone on the list at one time or another. Some I see once in a great while but still can't bring myself to delete them. Lee your one friend that I do see and hear from often.

Hi Barb. It took me about six hours. But I had to stop along the way and read stuff. People on Gather write interesting stuff so how can I not read it. LOL If it were just a paste the hello sentence it could have gone faster. Did you know that Colgate toothpaste will take out grass stains easier than any other product? I didn't, but I do now. Did you know that E-books are about to make librarys obsolete? I didn't and I don't think it will happen but someone thinks so. Did you know that Gather doesn't pay the electric bill on time and there was a power outage at headquarters last night? LOL I thought I had crashed my Gather site. ..... Anyway, I learned a lot of things by slowing down and reading. It was fun.

I was just wondering about friends yesterday. When you see some people who have over a thousand friends and their posts are still not getting 25 or 30 comments in a year, you have to wonder.
I admit that I probably connect with only about 30 friends regularly, and maybe 100 once a month. Some people have never had any content I'm even interested in viewing, so I hope they were just wanting to get their friend count up.

Like Jennifer, I don't Gather for points...I just like gathering...creating new material and reading and viewing what others publish. Happy day to you too.

396 is a lot of friends. I've been Gathering over 3 years and I try to keep my "friends" down to about 150...that way I don't miss "good stuff". I would really have a difficult time keeping up with 394...would have no time to "do my thing".

I have 402, which is more than the 140 or so that I really DO keep up with on a regular basis. Guess the rest connected so I would read them, but if I don't see them on my posts for 10 or 15 articles, I tend to forget about them.

You are a sweet lady. I am blessed to know you, funny so far away, but always seems like right here with me is what I am finding from Gather friends. I like the site much better than I did. I always liked it, but I had a rocky start on here, was partially due to me not reading the rules, but anyway.....things are better. I almost never read rules anywhere, and that is probably not a good practice to live by.

About once every two months I look at my friend list to see whohasn't commented on any of my articles. It usually takes me an hour, but I delete so called friends from my friends listing who have made no comments except for special cases where I know why the friend isn't commenting. During my last check, I deleted probably 35 people.

I thought I was going to delete some on my list too, William. But...I just couldn't. There were a few who did not have any articles or posts listed and there where a few who did not have any comments on the few posts they did have, so I made a note to go back at least once a week and say hello. Oh mannnnnn, we live in a world starved for human encounter and sometimes it's just hard. I did not get 396 replys in return but I did get the sweetest notes from those who did reciprocate. Gather is a good place.

No way. It took me about six hours to do this. I kept stopping and reading stuff along the way. I learned a lot of things that I didn't know. Did you know that an ant can carry 10 - 50 times it's weight? I didn't, but now I do.
