Do you think Gather will be another Boomertowne?

I previously posted an article about points updating slowly. Ever since the upgrade, my points have been updating slowly. The last few days, I've had a lot of activity, and still no improvement with the speed of points.

While I posted an article about the slowness of points, I received a response of an opinion from a Gather user, that Gather may be another Boomertowne; blaming us for the reason points are updating so slowly.

I've been frustrated with this as well and have thought a few times, whether or not, Gather will do the same thing as Boomertowne and not give us rewards at some point for our points we have hard earned, but then again, I have no complaint of redemptions and have always received my redemptions from Gather.

What is your view? Do you think Gather will do this to us? I'm hesitant about saving points and having this happen once again. Do you think Gather will eventually be another Boomertowne?

I don't think Gather would do that. They may not care at all about our opinions on their "upgrades" but they're so good about getting our rewards to us fast. I have faith in them unless they give me reason not to.

Possible, yes. I look at it this way; websites of any nature do not have to pay us to contribute to them, visit them, comment on them---however Gather works. Anything more than that, I don't expect anything. I used to be here for the points, but in the mean time I got a new job, and my situation has since improved. I have around 14,500 points and I haven't found a need to redeem them because there is nothing that interests me there at the moment. I'm more interested in the people than the points now, and thats the way it should be. Points are just a bonus.

I think the points not updating was more from the upgrade that they did, not that they are deliberately withholding points for the users. I've gotten a few of the points I was deserved, and they seem to be updating on a regular basis again, so hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

I am positive they will not go the way of Boomertowne. The points are structured to change as revenue changes. They also have a lot more in the works with partner name brand companies. But the recent slowness ofthe points is being investigated by Maryanne Flynn, she posted so in one of the daily help articles when someone mentioned that they were slow and hardly moved since the upgrade. Boomertowne and other sites that havecollapsed never had the ability for us as members to interact personally with their staff. Any one of us could travel to Boston and we would be happily met. and when they had the music contest sponsered by DECCa Records all gather members were invited to go and meet some of the staff working this contest, and we can easily just give Gather a phone call we could never do that with BT or netwinner. Gather will be around for a very long time.

Another BT refugee here...............just over a month to qualify for the 1st GC. When that comes thru I will start saving for higher point value items.
Takes awhile to calm the 'once burned' fear and harder to plan my time here without the pre-set goals like BT offered but so far ...so good.

No, Gather is NOT becoming another Bummertowne! Rest assured, the slow down in points is just a glitch as a result of the Jagger upgrade. According to MaryAnne Flynn of Gather, they've discovered a problem with the program that is messing up the point system and Gather has not changed their algorithm to lower the awarding of points, nor are they doing away with the point system. Gather is aware of the problem and are working very hard to restore things to the way they were pre-Jagger. Gather will try to make up many of the points that have not been awarded, however, points from over this past weekend seem to be lost for good. MaryAnne has assured us the points will be back to normal very soon. Gather has upheld their commitment to their members in the past and will continue to do so in the future, They will NOT becoming another sleazy site like Bummertowne and rip their members off.

Let's remember that Gather is in this to make money. If they stop making money, something will change, slower points? just a Boomertowne-style disappearance? could be anything. The slow points are definitely a red flag that has made me consider cashing my points ASAP.

We shall see.

I haven't been here that long, but Gather seems far more open and responsive that BT was. The few redemptions I've made have gone through faster than I could have expected. So, no I don't see another BT here.
I have no doubts about gather. Since the upgrade points did seem slow, but then I jumped a couple of dollars & now I think I've earned $4 since the upgrade.

I've seen this before, the points at Gather adding up S L O W L Y and then all of a sudden, BOOM - your total moves up a bunch all at once.... I give them the benefit of a doubt, I don't think they will pull a BTowne on us, these people at Gather are smarter and more technically savvy than the goons at BTowne apparently were

I don't think that Gather is going on the same direction as Netwinner or Boomertowne ... Gather has been around a good little while and I just don't see that changing. But heck, you never know really. It's possible I guess. But I don't see it happening.

I don't think Gather will become another Boomertowne. Boomertowne reeked of poor planning. Gather has always been very responsible in letting us know what is going on, when there is an upgrade. They have always been very helpful in answering questions. If Gather was to ever become history, we would know about it well ahead of time. I have faith they would never just disappear on us without first letting us know well ahead of time.

I just don't see it happening. Gather is run nowhere near the same as BT.

I havn't been on much lately because I have been sooo busy, so I really don't know if my points have been moving more slowly or not, but I am not worried about Gather going under.

It could happen, but I don't think it is going to anytime soon. I've been a member of several different sites that stopped paying for whatever reason. It happens even to the ones you think it won't happen to. So far there are no red flags from gather, though. And I believe gather is one of the ones that is set up better. That said, I don't ever save up too many points or money on any one site before cashing out. I've been burned too many times. I'm on the cash option here, but I don't go crazy like some people and cash out for $2-3 or anything like that, I usually just cash out once a month.

There is a post in the help section that states that the slow down in point accumulation was due to an adjustment (down) in points across the board, and that once it was completed, it would be passed off as a glitch, but in any event NO credit for the weeks worth of lost points will be forthcoming.
That does make me a bit cautious right now.

I really hope not. Boomer owed me $200 I never recieved anything from them. I am waiting for $10 from Gather I cash out 10/24. This was the first time I cashed out. Points have been really slow.

I could not even think of comparing the 2 together really. Gather is stuructured and not an easy site for people to hop on and make 25.00 in 1 week with only being on an hour a day! It takes alot of time and hard work to get points and trying to actually make a living off gather will not work. I am glad though.. Im glad to see people actually here because they enjoy the company more so than the few points we do get. Of course the points are nice and all but I dont think people would really be able to make alot of points here without not enjoying what they are doing.

So NO I do not think that gather will turn out like the place mentioned above :) Gather is not "Easy" lol

I have been on Gather for over 2 years now. I have made alot of nice connections and received several gift cards. I think Gather is honest. Yes, they have technical difficulties but all large websites have them.

I have noticed point changes probably for over 6 months now, but that is life. It is an enjoyable website.

Wow, now I'm a bit worried about Gather! Boomertowne owes me $300 in gift cards....which I'll never get! Soon I'm going to be able to cash in!
The differences between Gather and Boomertowne were evident to me the first time I ever entered that site. I hated its busy and cheap look and I also read its agreement which did not at all correspond to anything with which I would care to be associated.

To answer your question, I'm not sure I know what you mean by Gather BEING another Boomertowne, but I believe that Gather will not suddenly close its site without paying you what you are owed.

If the number of people who are here for the points ever exceeds the number of people here to share content and connect with others, then Gather may begin to run into problems. If that happens, the most sensible thing to do would be to let everybody redeem their points if they wish, pay them, and then discontinue the points.

I'm not here for the points. I've never redeemed any points. If the points were discontinued tomorrow, it wouldn't have any impact on my participation here at Gather.

With all the friends I have made on Gather I would be very disappointed if they closed up shop, I find the points are slow but we are getting points for communicating about things we want to, not like boomertown or netwinner or any other "if its too good to be true than it probably is" site... just my 2$

I stopped going to boomertowne in August as did not seem to matter what I did got few points and never did reach 30,000. Seemed like a lot to get $50 visa card. Here I earn 14,000 and get $300 in Visa cards or now in pay pal so have not been there in a long while. I guess reading here it was a phase and they went bust or something?

Oh no Gather has been good about points they have had slow downs before with glitches and they fix and we get our points.
