More Political Stupidity

Someone tried to steal Matt's McCain sign the other night and he chased after them.

I know what you mean. Why can't we all respect each others right to have different opinions. It's crazy how people act about politics.

Lawn signs get vandalized all the time. From both sides.

I am not a McCain supporter, but I agree wholeheartedly with this. This election year has brought out the worst in people on all sides. This country is in an economic crisis, we have troops overseas...there are far more pressing issues that need everyone's attention. Stealing signs and throwing insults is a complete and utter waste of time for citizens and candidates alike. I can understand why emotions are running high, but childish antics don't help anyone.

Yard signs are one thing, but the pictures of Obama with a noose around his neck, burning him in effigy, calling him "Sambo" and a terrorist...well that is entirely different.

Carla, that's really ugly. I have not seen anything like that where I live.

I don't support McCain either but I agree with your sentiment here. I don't think people name calling one another when they post on your articles is going to change anything either. That is something I really like to see stop.

This type of behavior is so childish; which many partake in. Americans need to grow up so the things that matter can be changed for the health of this great country.

Perhaps other McCain folks didn't want to pay for their own signs so they took yours.

Can't blame Obama for that, can you?

My Obama sign is pulled up and tossed into the shrubs in my front yard on a daily basis.

I would install a surveillance camera and prosecute. Also a motion sensor light. And I'd let the dogs out. The sign should not be touched. It's a form of voter intimidation to do so. I hear more stories of things happening to Obama signs than to McCain signs, but either way, it isn't right.

With that said, I will never do business with any business that puts a McCain / Palin sign in their window or on their premises. It's still a freee country. That's my choice. If I were a business, I'd stay out of politicking. You never know who you might be offending.

That is stupid.I saw a thing on my local news where somebody broke all the windows and trashed a McCain support center.What does that prove.NOTHING!!!!!!

It seems childish to be doing that....for both sides. I do have to say that McCain supporters aren't the only ones with hateful t-shirts and such. Both sides are being childish.

Tolerance for free speech/expression of opinions goes out the window with many at election time. Then you have the opposite, that cry the same to excuse rude and nasty T-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. as well. Sigh.

This is the first time I've even put a sign in the yard....and we've had it end up laying in the street and torn apart already....

I HATE politics and especially during election years!!! IT IS AWFUL! They say "what does that prove" in their comments, well it would signal to me that obama supports have criminals amonst them! LOL

I had not yet decided who I was planning to vote for but so far I am leaning toward McCain in that he is better for small businesses then Obama.

I'm sorry your signs were stolen. It could be kids pranks. One of my Obama signs was spray painted black.

I try to ignore the signs. I was brought up to believe your vote was yours to keep to yourself. Or discuss with friends, not advertise on the front lawn.

Some people are just dumb, I guess they needed the signs more than your neighbors.

It's all part of the process. Here in Canada someone cut the fuel lines in cars of people who had a certain political sign on their lawn - now that is real stupidity! I'll take stolen signs any day.

I don't know that the theft was necessarily politically based. Around here the teens steal signs and other things from yards just because they can. I think they get a thrill from it. If it was a political statement that was even worse though because it is really sad when adults start to exhibit childish behavior. I support Obama, but I respect other's right to show their support for their own candidate and think some people are just just acting plain stupid these days.

It also seems the mentality of gather has gone south. I reposted a few articles on Obama that didn't show him in a favorable light - and long time gather friends insulted me personally because they are Obama fans. I may disagree with a post but I've never gone as far as to insult the person who posted the article - or gone rabid on them. The Obama camp here on gather starts their sentences with their fangs bared and seems to enjoy being rude, dismissive, wordist - - to anyone who disagrees - - on a personal level. This is reflective of the majority of the Obama fans I've encountered in 'real life' as well as on line. A new all time LOW for gather overall....but what I fear most is it's a reflective sample of the population in general.


This afternoon I was in Garden Ridge. I was passing another shopper on an isle wearing an Obama Shirt. I looked at it, smiled as I passed her the way we acknowledge perfect strangers on cramped aisles - - and What did she do?

she grabbed her shirt and said this:

"Looks like we got us one goin' in to da Whithouse, sistah." I was floored. ONE that she said anything at all, secondly that she said: "we got us one going to da Whitehouse, sistah."

We got us one WHAT? Is what I wanted to know.

And what I really wanted to know was if she'd have done her song and dance at all if I'd been black too.
