What Are You Doing on Monday?

Tomorrow I will be here on Gather for a good bit of the day as usual. I wrote a poem for tomorrow, several weeks ago so will put it up then. I hope I hear from my kids, I usually do. Otherwise a day like all the rest. The next day May 29 is more important to me as it is my husbands birthday and he would have been 82. I miss him. My hero

What will I be doing? Let's see if I can bore everyone to tears! I'll of course say a prayer for our servicemen, past and present, then I'll with Mark, freeze the three huge pots of homemade spaghetti sauce that I've been simmering over the last day and night. Hmmmm, then I'll cook.

Dear Miz Elsie - awww you know your husband would be so proud of you for getting on Gather and meeting so many online friends. He must have been a great guy - well, he still is...I find it hard to believe that when the body goes - the spirit dies - Why can't folks just be around! Today mama gave me a gift - a rocker. It was strange. You know how I'm always saying, Mama, give me a message...well, I was sorting papers for all that legal crap and came across a tribute I'd put in the paper - it said "Mama, on the front porch, where times stands still, a silent wind blows and the rockers rock." mama loved her front porch and rocking chair...today we were walking our daily walk and a neighbor had just put a rocker on the street to give away...it was an old fashioned rocker and I said can I buy it - she said no, it was my mother's but you can have it...so I have the rocker I've been wanting on my porch! Anyway, Miz Elsie - I will look for your poem - I hope the kids get in touch with you. I'll be on and off all day meself. It's always a pleasure to see you! Many hugs, Salud.

We have Whitmonday here and a day off. Temperatures dropped and it is raining - quite a relief from my hay fever smptoms.

I have a piece of writing to do today: In my novel I have a scene were the protagonist for the first time in his life uses a flush toilet. This is remarkable since the story is set in 1700BC, and the concept of a flush toilet was totally strange to most people living then. The scene takes place in one of the Minoan palaces, and these people in fact had such things at this time.
So I have to put it in a language that is not too explicit, but expresses the astonishment of the protagonist about a novel thing, which we normally wouldn't even consider worth mentioning in a story.

That's the task I have set for me today.

Hi, Miz Mariana. I fell asleep early and am back up. Was wishing our point totals had been fixed but now I bet that won't happen until Tuesday. Probably nobody knows how to fix the computer on a holiday weekend.

I won't be doing much special. Am going out to breakfast with a friend then back here to Gather. When the triple points frenzy finishes on Thursday, I will go on with my life!

I saved the e-mail address you posted and will send you a note about my current situation. Just have been thinking how to write about it in a BRIEF manner so that you don't spend the rest of your life in front of the computer reading it!

How neat that your mama got you a rocking chair. I always love to sit in those rockers in front of the Cracker Barrel restaurants when we are travelling.

Our weather has been nice here - in the 70's with mostly sunshine and occasionally a cloud cover. I managed to break the suction device holding me to the computer so that I could go out and water my flowers. The poor little things don't understand about why I need to be on Gather 24/7! LOL

Hi Mariana! I'll be going to a barbeque at some friends. They are Guamanian and always have the most delicious food and most fun things to do. Looking forward to it.

I may go out and look for some stuff for the yard. It looks like I may need to go to the aquatic nursery again and get some fungicide for the fish.

On Saturday I picked up my fifteenth fish. This will have to be my last one or I will need a new pond!

Planting plants(just got my columbine, some toad lillies and Virginia blue bells), also going to see if I can scrounge up some pepper plants and a spaghetti squash plant. Have everything else in the ground except for my squash & basil seedlings and they aren't big enough yet.
Also concocting a spray that's supposed to kill creeping charlie. We'll see.
We are grilling boneless leg of lamb tonight, making risotto(with dried tomato & portabello mushrooms--I make it from scratch) and I have to figure out a veggie & dessert. A nice cabernat or Pinot Noir on the side and we are in for a beautiful evening. Maybe a fire in the backyard.

Hi, Mariana, We are actually going to rest some today. We've already gotten up and had a cup of coffee and my husband and dogs have gone back to bed for an early morning nap. I plan on joining them in a few minutes. What an extravagance ! We'll go to my friend's for a barbeque later. And then maybe, just maybe I'll spray the roses this afternoon late and work on the back porch. But this is definitely the day to have some rest. I'll think of you rocking in your Mother's rocking chair. Wasn't that a treat walking into that rocking chair? I'm going to have to see if I can find the show you are talking about you are on. Col. Possum mentioned one, which I read about the day after. Are ya'll all in this together? My husband is emphatic the best commercials and the best shows made are the ones with dogs in them. Have a wonderful day, Mariana. Oh, one more thing. We have a young lady staying with us who is a secret cook. But now the secret is out. Oh, she is a good cook. She made a black bean and yellow rice dish that was so good I almost fell on the floor. She actually did this with canned black beans. Would you by any chance have the low down on preparing dried black beans? I was asking her could she cook up a pot so that when I come in from the yard all I have to do is warm up something filling and quick to eat. Last summer I'd keep a pot of navy, red beans, kidney beans and a pot of cooked rice in the frig just for this purpose. Then I could go straight back outside to work in the yard again and the beans and rice would last me the day, even eating them as early as 9 or 10 in the morning. Take care.

I'll probably be on gather on and off all day. My husband went back on the road last night so it's just me and little man today.

Gracious and Green Good Morning to all of you...I say green because I haven't had one drop of coffee yet! Miz Vicky, thanks for agreeing with me about Elsie - what a fierce spirit! Vicky, I'll probably be on all of two minutes!! Miz Vicky, I sat in the rocker last night and looked right up at the moon - it was as if my mama was smiling down at me - isn't that wonderful!
Well, this gloom is driving me crazy. I will be flying down to Louisiana on June 6th so I'll touch base with you before then.

Haven't got much of anything planned for the day. I have to start packing my suitcase, as I'm off to Minnesota on Thursday. My baby (almost 26) graduates from college on Friday and this Momma will be there with lots of smiles, congratulations and bursting my buttons!

As long as you've taken the time to remember those who gave you the enjoyment of being free; then you've got what the day is all about. Doesn't matter what else you do...they gave you the right to live your life the way you want in our nation. I've already enjoyed good company to start my day early, checked out the services at the local cemetary, reflected, wrote a post one what today is about and not much else planned. Maybe a nap, some TV and a bite to eat later; then bed. We have our big observance on the original date of May 30th. Thanx for helping up keep the meaning alive from the official birthplace of Memorial Day, Waterloo, New York...where were honor the men and women of the military who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

Oh finding that rocker was sooooooo fantastic - you know everyday I say mama give me a present or a message or something to tell me you're thinking about me...yes, it was mama's doing - the neighbor said she held on to that rocker forever but had to let it go - she was thrilled it's going to a good home on my front porch - she said she'll be able to see it...she doesn't know the true meaning of it all...there are no coincidences...More later, Miz Lynn - always a treat to see you...

Oh the rocker is a wonderful gift and every porch should have a rocker! I bought two white wicker rockers for my porch, but they turned out to be to large for our small porch. I had a wicker love seat in my office at the time and put it on the porch instead. The rockers wound up in my family room where we have a wonderful view of the backyard and the garden there....so it's still apropriate and they get more use. We also can sit and rock while watching movies on the big screen tv.

My husband has 5 days off, and we've just been relaxing and visiting with friends this holiday. Saturday he bbq'd ribs and our good friend came over and enjoyed dinner and a dvd with us. Sunday was my son's annual bbq bash with lots of his friends, many of whom were his friends from high school and used to be practically a part of our family. So that was great fun. He smoked a huge brisket, and ten cornish game hens, and the girls all brought salads and deserts to go with it. It was delcious! We enjoyed good food and company, and watched as the younger crowd played darts and ping pong, and video games. Our middle dog Sadie lives with our son now, and we got to spend time with her. Sadie was having a ball with her Mommy & Daddy there, and she had company too. My son was dog sitting his bosses lab, and a neighbor brought her lab, so we there was one big doggy party going on, too!

Today, we'll go to Glendale to the used book store for their annual Memorial Day sale. Hoping to find some used books that will help me with my U.S. History writing for my new column. We've got a 30 per cent off coupon, too! Then maybe we'll find a Borders and use a $50 Gather gift card I have, and my husband got a $100 Borders gift card from his work or something. Lots of books waiting for us, hopefully!

While we've been doing the morning e-mails and chores around the house, we occassionally have to run outside and watch the parade of old planes going by in honor of Memorial Day. I guess Forest lawn and maybe Van Nuys air port are having tributes. It's a delight to see these old planes flying low enough over our house we can practically reach up and touch them, and it reminds us of what the day is all about to begin with.

I am impressed with the number of articles you have written. A lot of work but I am sure you enjoy it.

Memoria Day we are staying home to protest the price of gasoline. It won't do any good but it make us feel empowered.

I hope your day was most pleasant. My day was a work day, but now that I'm home I'm enjoying doing things I enjoy on the computer.

I have had a day of recovering from my weekend at a toy/modelers convention. I have spent most of this day in bed. I am hoping you all had a good day.

The kids spent the day with my inlaws doing nothing, I made a ground meat spaghetti, and then got dispatched about 1pm, working until 1am. I didn't go in the direction of franklin though, good thing you weren't around, I worked down in venice.
