The old band teacher told me, Mariana, you learn one new thing a day. At the end of the day, I've tried to recount what that one new thing was. Yes, I did learn something. I continue to try to learn something everyday. Today, I learned the site where my Eureka, Nevada house is was once a smelter mill. That's where they crush the rock and then heat it up to break it up into its mineral constituents. Actually, not on the exact site, but next door. They processed the ore to extract the lead and silver that were the primary minerals of value of the day. I'm sure there is much more to it but I'm just telling you that I did learn at least this much about my present location on the planet. So, what did you learn today? Thank you. Salud.

Hey Judy I've done the same...but I discovered that you can only do that when they are fresh...just picked.
I also learned that we will be flying down to Florida on Memorial Day weekend to spend one day helping my in-laws pack, one night at their place, then driving them back north the next day. We'll be blessed to have them with us for a week until my husband's step-sister can drive down to pick them up and finish taking them back to their summer home in Michigan. Their ages (84 and 87) are finally catching up with them. :o(
Miz Vicky D. You've been tagged by me to do five positive thangs about yourself - get hoppin' ole gal.
Miz Krista oh time and time again, I say that as I lose so many dear friends who I've just thought of sending a card to - one day too late. You guys are always in our thoughts - both you and Miz Mona have brought loads of joy to our simple lives! We thank you always.
Miz Deb J. Happy birthday - my friend - I need to go through my list and see who I forgot - and blessings for a great Mother's Day and Mother's Day week.
Bob, Congratulations! That's really very special award and certainly deserving so let me blatherskite and ask everyone to find a tiny place in your heart to adopt one of those sweet kittens or puppies from the shelter. Give them a new life and they'll repay you tenfold with unconditional love.
Miz Susan - my apologies for not visiting you more often - I always enjoy your posts and glad you found a new route home!
Miz Ina - you live such a busy life and you're always cheerful - I know you're like me - we both have a cold one and smile! Enjoy the old inlaws - their time on the planet is short but glad you're able to help them out. Glad you found out about your purple bush - it's gorgeous.
Fred - well, sometimes you wake up in the morning to a new world - it happens all the time - keep on doing your thing!
Miz Judy - I love to eat corn that way - even if I buy it at the store - you just take it and cut off the kernals with a knife - sometimes all 800 of them and then you can give your chickens the cobs to finish up...I eat it raw all the time! I should plant some summer corn when I get back to Calif - I had it growing in my front yard right along with the sugar cane one year - no we dont live in a gated community - lol.
Sue D. That sounds wonderful and old fashioned - happy day after Mother's day! Glad you enjoyed yourself and extended family!
Miz Marianne - once you get into foxfire then you can bring in larger sizes - I usually get mine to 1600 then bring them in. Haiku isn't that difficult the way I do it - just check google and see what the meter is - of course, you dont' see me writing anything that minimal...lol...I think I may have tried it once in my early beginnings...
Thank each of yall for your fabulous comments - it's always a thrill to wake up on a Monday (groan) and see all these comments! Many hugs to everyone. Thank you. Salud.

You should be able to get these at amazon.com, but if you can't, you can get it from www.bodie.com. In fact I bought mine at Bodie.
Now, I finally learned something yesterday that I was wanting to find out and it just sort of came to me without even trying. We took my husband's photo students on a field trip to Randsburg in the western Mojave. Only two went, but we had a ball anyway. One of our stops was to be the neighboring town of Johannesburg, which has the cemetery where former residents of both communties are buried. I had heard that the red light lady known as French Marguerite was buried in that cemetery, but had never found her grave, so that was my goal for the day, to find it if I could. Before we went to the cemetery, however, we stopped in the little Randsburg museum which is rarely open, but sure enough it was! We started talking to the curator and I don't even know what brought it up but she started talking about a town event she said they put on in February called Floozy Days. And her daughter played Marguerite Roberts. I think she was surprised when I knew who she was talking about.
"Wow, French Marguerite! Can you tell me where her grave is?" She made a quick phone call and was able to get enough of a description that when we got to Johannesburg, we easily located it! We haven't had time to look at the pictures yet, but there's one of me standing over French Marguerite's grave now! Thus I had another infamous Ho to my list!
Salut! [and you might want to look for tiny drops and nuggets of siler in the vicinity of the old silver smelter. Silver is getting more and more expensive.
I just saw your comment on my DREAM WAR chapter that said I should post a link to my chapter on one of your articles so here goes...
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976971861
It would be a great read if people want to learn something today about the history of dreams!!!
As for what I learned today? I learned that sometimes people we don't even know can be really great to us for no reason whatsoever. If I believe that I'm attracting great people into my life, they will come into my life. Thoughts become things!
:-)
Have a great day everyone!
Stephen, I am glad you dropped by as one of your links to your chapter didn't work for me. Folks, meet Stephen, and if you haven't and have the time, please drop him a comment - he's been working hard to get his book published and it's a good story!
Sue - you must be on top of the world! Congratulations and please tell her Miz Mariana sends her best!
Jude, the last thing I worry about is stuff like that - some folks get more toxins from using their microwave (which I've never had) than these left over metals...but I'll let you know if I start glowing in the dark - lol...
Peter, actually, they did exist but the Ice Age killed them off and they were broug over by settlers from Europe. There are many earthworm fossils about - a tad larger but still yes, they existed. If you want more details, I'll be glad to let you know - I' think we're speaking Pleioscene.
Cecile, I need to get your regular email - mine is Bayoutoes@aol.com. Sometimes I can't open Gather and I want to talk to you - do you read Anne Seagraves? She's the author of many books about Western Women and I do think yall have much in common.
I'll comment more Miz Cecile. More later - have to get off - I'm spraying a doily on my attic thing - so the doily shape shows up silver - make sense - more later. Salud
Miz Angelica: I hope your friend makes up for what he said he was going to do!
Miz Sue D. I haven't heard from the Funny Guy in weeks - don't have a clue - maybe he got a job!
Old habits are hard to break for sure Miz Kathryn - sometimes we don't even know they are habits!
Hello Miz Jan - I used to do quite a bit of ice skating but not in last few years - I do miss it - maybe this winter!
Thanks Miz Cecile - yes, Anne Seagraves has some nice books out - I sure enjoy reading about Western Women...thanks Yall! Have a great evening. Salud.
David, no that's not very far at all as the crow flies! Why, are you going there? Salud.
Thanks, friend, for this wonderful piece.
