Western Australia is known for its black swans. Several weeks ago Magi brought me to Lake Monger, an urban wetland five km from Perth, to see the swans....but though we saw lots of ducks, no black swans were visible. Later, we saw one pair with babies, at Hyde Park. The other morning listening to talk back radio early in the morn, it was mentioned the ballerinas appearing in the ballet Swan Lake in Perth for the week had a photo shoot at the Lake the day before and that the lake was overflowing with black swans. Immediately, since we had nothing else on the agenda, we decided to ride over to the lake and see for ourselves.
The Park surrounding Lake Monger is gorgeous. Mag decided we would take the 3.5 km walk around the lake. Come take the walk with us.

In the distance, one can see the skyline of Perth.

Hope you all enjoyed our day with the birds.

They tried to relocate some of these to Stanley Park in Vancouver without much success.
You must come to Australia and see for yourself.
Those cygnets are absolutely adorable.
And a Mallard-resembling duck in some ways, and an Egret? of some sort?
Featured in the Triple Name Club.
I think they were wild Mallards, but am unsure. It was either an Egret of Heron, I believe - though I'm not certain.
But where's the Magi? Where's the big breakfast? Just kidding.
I was trudging and tramping unseen, hiding behind my camera.
Talking of room, Bob, your right hand side Photos are getting truncated - I think you are placing them in the RH margin, so they get a couple of inches clipped from the view.
Try edit and move the "Wings Over" shot to the left then save it again.
I bet $20 it says "Wings Over Perth"!
Thanks for the day out with the ducks and the Swans.
Don't swim there or drink the water though - the Water Fowl foul the water!
We don't understand the comment about the photos being truncated - on this computer screen they are just fine.
Is there a job open like that?
Lovely shots, each one is an adventure.
I enjoyed this very, very much.
Thank you for putting it together for us yanks.

I also like the one when you are behind the tree!
thank you
A Duck can only stand in awe at the sight of her gorgeous cousins. Great shots, Magi and Bob.
That shot of the egret in flight is wonderful... most professional photographers find it difficult to catch shots of birds on the wing, you did a great job!
I can't stop oohing over your floral photos... stunning shots!
Pray a lot, huh? :-)
That reminds me of a trip I once took to Iowa with good friends... we were going to meet Dennis Kucinich. The wife, seating in front, was very matter of fact about the husband's driving speed. We took a wrong turn and in order to arrive in time, our speed increased exponentially. She calmly looked at me and said in her sweet Southern drawl, "Just grab the Jesus Bar, honey". Jesus Bar... that was what she called the grab bars above the door of the car. She explained that whenever her husband made those wild turns around a curve or sped around like a Nascar driver, she just reached for the bar and prayed "Oh, my Jesus".
Black swans were first discovered (by white settlers) in Western Australia - hence the original names: the Swan River and the Swan River Colony.
He's got the adventurer in him, not afraid of dogs and other 4 legged creatures.
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful trip with us.
I do admit though, that I thought a Swan's legs were longer. The legs surprised me. The birds are beautiful.
And the twitter of the birds, among the trees,"
I truly do love this poem by Longfellow. LOL. I can't help myself, and just exactly what do swans do? Bleat, twitter? I don't know what a swan sounds like.
Loved the pictures across the water too. I'm glad you got some good weather after the rainy days.
