I love spending time with my sister, -- spending days and nights at her home has always been a blast and something I so much enjoy.......never ever a dull moment!! As always when I stay, I have to 'spy' in the "I SPY" books for my niece, Alexis, who is six years of age. "I SPY" is a series of books with picture riddles where objects are 'spied' and you locate the 'spied' objects. In the past, I never really gave a lot of attention to the pictures in these books, -- my job was to 'call out' the 'spied' objects while Alexis was to find the 'spied' objects.
Last week I spent several days with my sister, and like normal, Alexis 'drags' out the "I SPY" books. Before we begin to 'spy' in her chosen books, there are a couple things we must do. First,- we sit in her daddy's big, plush recliner (she lies across me with her back against one arm of the chair while she throws her legs across the other arm); second,- we must have two pillows (one is placed behind her back to prop her up, while the second pillow is placed under her legs) and third,- we must have her pink and purple soft blanket (this is used to cover us so we do not get cold and yes, we use this blanket in July!!) Now that we are all cozy and comfy, I proceed to call out a 'spied' object and immediately Alexis points it out. (She has "spied" in these books one thousand times!!) As we go from page to page, all of a sudden the pictures on the pages really grab my attention. The pages were so colorful with pictures of 'things' I remember from my childhood!! There were antique dolls, old toys, bottles, books, things from "The Mother Goose" nursery rhyme books, old 'pointed, cat-eye' glasses, marbles and plastic jewelry just to name a few. With my passion for antiques, old children's books and things from my childhood, - immediately I knew I must have "I SPY" books.
My sister went on ebay and found several different "I SPY" books just waiting for bids. She came across a set of seven books that was used, in good condition and with hard covers, with the bidding ending approximately 10:00PM that night. Since I was going home this particular day, I decided to wait until I got home to begin placing my bids. About 9:30PM that night, hubby begins to enter bids (I was trying to catch up with my 'gathering', so I was much too busy to sit there patiently or in my case impatiently, to enter bids). Well, when all bids were entered and time had expired, -- hubby was the highest bidder....YIPPEE!!!
My "I SPY" books came in the mail today. I was so excited I could barely open the box. I've gone through a couple of them just admiring the colorful pages that are full with all sorts of things. Occasionally, I would 'spy' for one of the objects but it took me much, much longer to locate the object than it did Alexis.

I know I'm really going to enjoy my "I SPY" books but for "some" reason I felt a little lonely and a little sad today as I was looking at them!! Then it hit me....I needed to be sitting in a big recliner, with two pillows, a pink and purple soft blanket and with Alexis lying across me, -- then and only then, would I be all cozy and comfy as we "I SPY" together!!!

Alexis with her new friend! (Aunt Phyl loves you very, very much)!!!

In another couple years, you should introduce her to "Choose-Your-Own Adventure" books. Those are addictive as well.
