Cold wind and freezing snow didn't keep us from heading to the OR State Zoo for the annual zoo lights. Most animals are put away but thousands of lights make up a beautiful winter display. The snow only added to the effect.

In the ampitheater area lights forming animals created a magical display.

There were plenty of different creatures to keep young minds captivated, even with the freezing temperatures.

An entire gingerbread house, complete with life-sized jacks and a spinning top made for a delightful display.

Every walkway was lit with cascades of lights, a winter fairyland.

An elephant parade completed our night.

If you are anywhere near the Portland, OR area, I highly recommend the zoo lights. They run through the 28th and are an absolute delight. Money well spent and if you have a zoo membership at the plus level or higher, you get in for free. Don't forget to ride on the train, it's the best part of the night!

To far for us to drive.
I am wondering if the zoo got the money they were asking for, for the critters? The lights are neat, but are the critters going without ? Do the lights pay for themselves? I can just imagine the electric bill......
That zoo also has a website with video of their Christmas display.
Very nice place to visit!
