so first submission to Benel brought me this very pleasant message:
"Just to let you know that an image that you sent in, has been selected for Picture of the Day on PowerShot User. Your picture will be featured on 26th May 2007, and you can vote for your picture on this day only to help it's chances in the monthly competition.
Your image can be viewed at this link now: http://www.benel.com/powershot/pic-of-the-day.php?day=26&month=5&year=2007

For those who want to snark-- the camera is a week into use. First date of use 16 May. Already there have been more than 2000 frames taken of which 80percent went to trash.
Why it took Gather over a year to feature any one of my pictures on the front page is beyond me, but it had plenty of room for a few select people.
And if I finally receive some acknowledgement in life, it's way overdue. So please don't come to this page and harp at me about my ego or that I use gather only to promote my pictures--it's just not true. My pictures never end up in the top 50 and if you look through my images, they are consistently downranked by trolls and I receive precious little comments or acknowledgement on this site and no gain from the points.
I work very ahrd for these little prizes and compete against excellent photographers and the EXIF data of the images are always verified. There can be no plagiarism and usually no editing changes allowed. In most contests, the size and resolution are given in guidelines as well as the information that is requested.
No one trained me to be a photographer and I do not have easy access to any information for learning it. The internet is relatively expensive and the connections bad. So it is something I make lots of effort at and many sacrifices for the few awards I receive.
And so the majority of my images never come to Gather because actually sometimes I submit as many as 40 in one day and have uploaded over 100 in a day for various submissions. So very few pictures ever come here because I don't like to see my images downranked and its one of the few things I have in life to show for all the sweat and tears involved.
