I have been for some time trying to understand the comparison of Chambelain ceding portions of Europe to Hitler with withdrawing from Iraq? Hitler was sitting on the most powerful military establishment on the planet with the best technology and many of the best scientists? How exactly does that compare with leaving a bunch of Iraqis to continue their shootout until they reach a last group standing sort of solution. I guess I just don't get the comparison.
It seems to me that it would be more comparable to Britain deciding finally to pull out of India. Its not comparable to Viet Nam because we never toppled the opposition in Viet Nam, so we did not have a military victory in Viet Nam. We have had a victory in Iraq, we just have completely screwed up the occupation. As Steinbeck once remarked about one of Hitler's conquests, "the flys have conquered the flypaper."
I can see where there could be some comparisons of us to Hitler. Hitler preceded his invasion of Poland with a fake raid by German criminals dressed in Polish uniforms which he had shot. Bush didn't go to quite those extremes he just manipulated the intelligence reports. But, I don't see the comparison of the Democrats to Chamberlain. Who exactly are we supposedly appeasing?

Who would we be ceeding the area too the people of Iraq?
We basically have a tyranical, out of control leader in our country at present. How would you feel if China thought he was a threat to them, and invaded us to prevent us from attacking them with our WMD's! (and we actually have them!). Believe me, much of the world now thinks we are nasty! (thanks to Bush)...Even I would not welcome our new occupiers even if they did hang all in Washington!
Can you imagine trying to take care of your family in the 'NEW IRAQ" we have so nicely created! This false war was for nothing more than control of the oil in the middle east, and Bush cares nothing about the lives destroyed in the process. How would returning a country to its' rightful owners have any resemblance to what Chamberlin did? Neocons actually have us believing we are losing by giving their country back to them? What are we losing? Oil? It's not ours to lose!
Believe me, no terrorists will control Iraq if we leave. There are millions of citizens who will control Iraq, and not a few insurgent terrorists! Bush talks as if the "TERRORISTS" are breeding at exponential rates, and can occupy Iraq if we leave! A handful of so called Terrorists will not take over any country!
The only way Iraq will develope a real government is if we leave. It may result in a civil war, but we had the same thing before we settled into what we now have...a PsuedoDemocracy (unfortunately). Many will die, and the powerful and wealthy will rise to control everything just like they do in our country.
I think in the next election, we need to not vote for anyone who supported this debacle of epic proportions! Regardless of party!
There are people who are so filled with doom gloom and fear that they believe the only thing America can do is to turn into the imperialistic monster they are currently portrayed and destroy countries in the process of making them safe for American business!
There are many who will fight for this country. That is not what we are doing in Iraq!
