I'm doing this workshop on treating your writing like a business and today's topic was web presence. This is something I've been pondering for a while anyway, but never really got on that pony. I have a lot of stuff posted on the internet and, as I have a lot of interests, it's pretty scattered. I'd like to have some kind of organized area for all of it. Then there's that contest I'm in right now on Amazon. Plus, I'd like to have some way to let people know when I do get published that the book is out. (If I had a dime for every time someone said "When is the rest coming out?") There are a lot of options and I don't know what will work best.
Website
Too work intensive for me right now. Honestly, the full time job in a foreign country and the full time writing career are plenty for now.
My Space
It looks like these things can be personalized quite a bit, but my husband had a lot of trouble with his account to the point where he closed it down. I don't want this thing to be hanging around my neck a la albatross. However, it offers a lot more flexibility as to what I can put on it.
Am I right in assuming Facebook is more or less the same as My Space?
Yahoo Group
Honestly, this option appeals to me the most. I know how to do it already. But it doesn't offer a lot of flexibility. I could pretty much run a blog and chat with folks.
Blog site
There's about 1000 of these. It would be easy, but like Yahoo I would only be able to blog and wouldn't be able to have, say, a table of contents for all of my articles and reviews, though I would be able to put up photos.
I really need something that I can blog on, post photos, keep a list of articles on and have some fun things for readers too. Any suggestions or votes?
This is my entry in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest.

I'd say a personal website with interactive pages would work best. I know it sounds like a lot to manage, but there are hosts that have pre-designed templates and you can set them up in under two hours.
But then you've got to promote that, too. :)
I used to use OneAndOneInternet.com when I was a Realtor - and it worked well.
I didn't enter the amazon contest and now I wish I had. It appears they are doing
about the same as gather does. With the exception that if you let them publish it they will put you out where everyone can see it. I wish I had some answers for you. I can wish you good luck! When you decide please let us know.

This article is a clear and delightful read. Thank you.
The personal website looks like a good option. The actual set up isn't as expensive and cumbersome as it used to be, just use one of those companies who has a choice of templates and options.
