I don't even want to go through the process of counting all the words I've written over the years. My hard drive is full of articles, stories, poems, screenplays, and a few unfinished novels.

Holy crow, this would be a challenge! On top of the published work (20 books, 1000+ articles, reviews, etc.), there are all kinds of speeches, press releases, corporate documents, web-copy, journals, letters, emails, essays, online posts of all kinds, newsletters, PSAs, etc., etc., I wonder how many that would be? No wonder my house is full of bulging file cabinets, boxes of manuscript drafts, stacks of papers yet to be filed, and hard drives overflowing with files! Yikes. Perhaps it would be easier to calculate based on some sort of average daily word output... If I have averaged 1500 words per day, every day since I was about sixteen and started writing seriously (that's when I started my first paid job as a radio station copywriter) that would make... wow... over 16 million words so far!

Wow congrats!! Kinda shocking to see that 2 million mark huh? (sad is, all my 2 million are in novel form.... i should really learn to write short stories)

Rox, I forgot all about that one! I looked at it a couple of years ago and thought it was total garbage, but I think I could probably revamp it into something decent now.

Matthew, It was an interesting exercise.

Nikki, I didn't even count that stuff. I've good a couple hundred reviews posted on Epinions and other miscellaneous stuff. And then you get into the stuff I wrote for comics and the stuff I did at Northern Ohio Live. Ooo and all the stuff I've done for teaching. I only counted the stuff I could easily find.

CC, it is scary, but rewarding too.

Rhonda, only about an hour thanks to computers with word counts.
