Where are the points?

I've got a similar problem

Things seem to be moving a little slower lately. Just hang in there, it goes in spurts. I think anyways!

I think most of my points come from commenting.

I probably spend 2-3 hours a day on Gather reading and commenting on articles & images and publishing stuff of my own. I've got about 2700 points so far this month, and it's only the 21st. I'm also the owner of a few groups. I think that helps with your points too.

I am just returning to gather after almost a year and I find the points baffling. Now I don't feel so alone!

I have no idea. I know when I go to bed then wake up and check this It usually goes up in points quite a bit. I leave good articles before I go to bed and then check it all in the morning. I wish I knew how the points worked also! I just asked this question today and many said you dont get really 10 points per comment.. but they are also not sure how exactly it does work.

I got the same problem too. I did notice that your points dont show up right away. I just try to get atleast 100 points a day and im happy. Just think that would be 700 in a week.

Mne seem to be adding up very slowly lately too!

I don't keep too much track of them, I just kind of watch them grow.

dont know if this will help you or not,but i was told when you comment ,make it at least 3 words and post,comment and commment galore,my points go up slow also..
i do not see how people can earn so many either..go figure

I've been a gather member for a year, today. In a month, after cashing in my first gift card, I was offered the cash program. I don't to this day know how the points work, add up, or any of it - it's supposed to be some type of formula that gather uses and we aren't really the ones who know about it.
Everything counts. Connections, comments, articles, games, you name it - it counts. I think also that there are a certain amount of points/cash allocated for a day, it would almost have to be as the advertisers are what pays for the points and/or cash, as when the site started, there was no pay. So, when the points for the day are given out, you might not see any until the next day, as more and more people join and gather does get more advertisements, there will be more points available, but as to if they'll keep up with the people joining and posting - so far, I don't think so, but that's just my opinion.
Just keep at it and you'll get there - good luck and also rate articles too, I gave you a ten.

PS - can anyone tell me how to know how many points you get in a month? If I knew I was close to the 3,000 mark, I'd try extra hard.

I am new too and I only have 24 points! (Go to My Gather to find out) I do have a couple ideas for articles but I work full time and hang out online part time so I'll try to publish more on weekends. It would be nice to get some cash to pay for my internet!

I'd suggest doing your best to get some exposure. Join a lot of groups, some general point groups and some that pertain to mainly what you're posting (ie. writing groups if you're a writer, nature groups if you're taking nature pictures, etc).

Also, getting connections are great. If you continue to regularly comment on their articles and images then they'll usually do the same on yours.

I'm fairly new to Gather and have no idea how the point system works or what the points are even for. I just joined for networking and having a place to express my ideas, feelings and photos.

They use some algorithm, but it doesn't le tyou know what gives the most points. The best we can do is help each other with high ratings and lots of comments.

I am not sure how they are figuring it either.. It is way slower than before as far as awarding points goes... I have started to just forget about the points, if I have something to share I do but I am not writing, commenting or rating just for the points... It's impossible to figure out or predict so what is the point anymore? :-(

I have the same problem. I post articles and comment for about 2 hours a day. And at the end of the day it seems that I have only been awarded 5 points.

I have no idea how it works........but keep me informed if you find out please.

I get about 250 points a day. Here is what I do.
First of all I put in LOTS of time, I am at home watching kids from 7:30AM - 3PM, and on much of that time as they are playing (of course I feed them/play, ect) but I have a laptop so I just bring it with me. Then I have access to it at work, so on slower days I comment/post then too, thats from about 3:30 to midnight. I come home, usually gather for about a half hour to relax then go to bed.
While I am on I post very few articles, but that's just because I don't have much to say. Mainly I post pictures, and comment on pictures. The fastest way I have found to comment on pictures is to go the the most recient picture, look at it, rate it and make a comment. THen rather than going back to images just look in your address bar, change that last number to one less and it will bring you to the previously posted picture. Repeat over and over. It is quick, and you get to see lots of picture which equals lots of points.

I also read articles when I am board, and play some of the games. When playing a game like "post as many words starting with M here" I will bring up a dictionary web page to help me. Anyway, all this for about 250 points per day over the past week or so..>I am kind of new to gather, and just started putting in this much time last week. We'll see if it sticks,

I havent been spending alot of time on gather but I'm going t o need to spend more because I am determined to get a gift card by the end of the month.

darn it all :(

I posted about 40 comments this morning because I couldn't sleep so I got onto Gather. My points only went up by 7. That was a lot of work for 7 points. I know you don't get points per comment you leave but that was a lot of page views too.

I am brand new to Gather and I had a very similar question. Is the determination for the point system here a "secret"?

i just sined up to gather and i have no clue about anything! i need to kno how to get points.
